3 Claims. l
This invention has for another object to provide means whereby a filter funnel cannot overflow during the filtering operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby liquid being filtered cannot evaporate during the filtering period though it may be a long one.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a filter stand provided with slidable closures for a funnel used in the filtering operation.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the vaccompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure l is a vertical sectional view of the invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan lview of a stand, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
While one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to he understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances -which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. And while there is stated the primary eld of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable. l
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specication, the same reference characters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which IIIl refers to the complete invention which consists of a stand Il, the top I2 of which is provided with a bore I3 to receive the neck I 4 of a bottle I5 adapted to be invertedly seated upon the stand. The legs I5, Il, I8 and I9 of the stand are of an exact length to permit a bottle 20, with a funnel 2l of a prescribed size to seat under the stand with the said bottle neck -I4 depending about one-third Way down into the body of the said funnel. The bottle is to be equally as large as bottle l5 if not larger but should be no smaller than the latter,
Connecting legs I6 and I8 and I1 and 4.I 9 respectively are horizontal, runners 2| and 22 so positioned .that'the glass or plastic' plates 23 and Zlslidable thereon will seat flush upon the upper edge 25 of the funnel in order to completely close the mouth thereof surrounding the neck I4 when the semi-circular recesses 26 and 21 are completely closed in around the neck I4 of bottle I5 and the inner edges 28 and 29 of said plates contact one another. The funnel 2I is, of course, provided with the usual filter disk 30.
In using the above described automatic filtering device, the bottle 2U with its funnel 2| is seated in position under the aperture I3 in the table top I2, then the bottle I5 is inverted and seated with said neck through the bore, then the plates 23 and 2:1 closed in upon said neck. The contents 3l of the bottle I5 will pour into the funnel 2| until the liquid reaches the edge 32 of the bottle neck, whereupon the same is sealed against entrance of air and the said contents will stop flowing down until after the contents 33 of the funnel lter out into bottle 20 to such an extent as to unseal said bottle neck I4 permitting contents from the bottle I5 to again ow into the funnel, which operation continues automatically until all of the contents of bottle I5 have been filtered into bottle 2B. Bottle 20 being of a size to hold all of the contents of bottle I5, there can be no overflowing of the liquid. It is of course to be understood that the stand Il may be of any length to hold any number of bottles and that the latter may be of any size from vials to demiiohns or carboys, all depending upon the liquid to be filtered and the quantitv thereof.
From the foregoing specification it will become apparent that the invention disclosed will adequately accomplish the functions for which it has been designed and in an economical manner and that its simplicity, accuracy and ease of operation are such as to provide a relatively inexpensive device considering what it will accomplish and that it will find an important place in the art to which it appertains when once placed on the market.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthly description is regarded. as unnecessary.
Changes in shape,r size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the pur- 3 view of the invention claimed may be to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having thus described the invention that those versed in its particular art will fully understand how to make and use the same, as well as its functions, and without having attempted to deresorted tail all of. the forms. in which.. it may be made...
all of its. a'dvantageaor all of the uses toA which,
Y it may be put, it is declared that which is claimed as new and sought to be protected by Letters;
Patent is:
1. In a filtering apparatus; an elevated' stand;
having an aperture in its upperportion,r aaliquid container having a neck receivedin said aperw ture, a second liquid container having. a.. neck spaced beneath the neck of said first-mentioned container, afunnel carried by the neck ofsai'd second container and loosely receiving the neck of said iirst container, and means for closing an opening encircling,4 said inst-mentioned neck at 1 per portion, a liquid container having a neckv received in said aperture, legs carried by said table top supporting the same in an elevated position, a second liquid container having a neck spaced beneath the neck of said rst container, a funnel carried by the neck of said second container, said funnel having a mouth portion looselyv receiving the neck of said first container, guidery members carriec by said table top, and plates slidably mounted in said guide members toward opposite sides of the neck of said first container, said plates provided with opposing notches receiving; opposite sides of the neck of vsaid" rst container for closing an opening between the funnel and said rst-mentioned neck.
