1 Claim. (01. 254-190) This invention relates to a hose guide and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with the hose used for watering gardens, lawns and the like.
It is an object of the invention to provide a hose guide which can be properly positioned with facility and in a manner to eifectively guide the line of direction of a watering hose to prevent such hose from inadvertently contactin plants or shrubbery or becoming entangled with any obstruction which might interfere with the use of the hose.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of our improved hose guide whereby certain important advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that our invention may be better understood, we will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the device, partly in section;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. '2; and,
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device in operation.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the device comprises a ground-penetrating or anchoring member M of desired dimensions and which is preferably of metal. This member M comprises an elongated flat plate I having its side longitudinal margins tapered toward the penetrating extremity thereof and which extremity 2 is in the conventional form of an arrow head. The opposite faces of the plate I, at the transverse center thereof, are provided therealon with the reinforcing ribs 3 which are upwardly and outwardly increased in width from at the lower extremities thereof to a predetermined width at the opposite or upper ends.
Integral with the top or upper extremities of the plate I and the reinforcing ribs 3 is a flat base plate 4 extending laterally beyond one side of the member M a desired distance and which is provided therealong at its transverse center with a depending reinforcing rib B, the inner extremity of which is integral with the adjacent reinforcing rib 3. This base plate 4 is disposed at approximately 30 with respect to the member M although this angle may be varied as preferred. The base plate 4 to one side of the plate I of the member M has its side marginal portions in convergence.
Integral with the inner portion of the base plate 4 and directly above the plate I of the member M is an elongated straight shank 1 of desired length and which is substantially at right angles to the top flat face of the base plate 4.
' .Freely mounted on the shank I is an elongated roller R of a length to extend from the base plate 4 to a point closely adjacent to the upper outer extremity of the shank I. The upper or outer extremity of the roller R has integrally formed therewith a surrounding collar 8 of a material radius and which provides means to prevent the hose H engaged with the roller R from riding over and off the roller R when pull is imposed upon the hose.
The roller R may be freely held to theshank 1 in any manner preferred but in the present embodiment of the invention, the outer extremity of the shank I is provided with a reduced extension 9 having an opening Ill radially therethrough through which may be easily inserted a cotter pin II or the like. It is believed to be obvious that the mounting of the roller R is such that the same can be readily applied or removed without in any way interfering with the efficiency of the device.
When the member M is engaged within the ground at a desired location, it is believed to be obvious that the hose H engaged with the roller R will beproperly guided and in a manner to prevent such hose indiscriminately shifting or contacting with shrubbery or flowers with resultant injury and it is believed to be obvious that the free rotation of the roller R permits the desired pulling of the hose H with a minimum of resistance. The top surrounding collar 8 will assure the hose H being maintained in proper contact with the roller R as said collar operates to prevent the hose from riding up off of the roller.
From the foregoing description it is believed to be obvious that a hose guide constructed in accordance with our invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated.
We claim:
A hose guide of the character described comprising a base plate, a relatively long ground penetrating member integral with the underfaoe of the base plate and extending at an angle oblique to said underface, said ground penetrating member being substantially fiat and having a. ground penetrating point at its free end, the ground penetrating member being tapered from the base plate to the point, laterally projecting ribs upon opposite sides of the ground penetrating member and. extending longitudinally there-.- of, said plate being of greater length than width and having the ground penetrating member joined thereto adjacent -to one end thereof, a rib forming an integral continuation with one of the first mentioned ribs and extending longitudinally of the underside of the plate to the end thereof remote from the ground penetrat ing member, a shank rigidly secured at one end to the top of said plate at the endthereof'adjacent to the ground penetrating member, a relatively long roller rotatably mounted upon the shank and resting upon said plate, the roller having a flange at the end remote from the plate, and means for detachably maintaining the roller in position upon the shank.
