To all whom 'zt may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE REHFUSS, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Apparatus for Dispensing Aerated or EifervescingLiquids from Bottles or other Vessels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, that willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Thisinvention relates to apparatus for draw ing or dispensing effervescing or aerated liquids from bottles having internal stoppers closing outwardly by the pressure of the liquid, and particularly from the bottles known as Oodds patent globe-stoppered bottles, in which the stopper is a glass ball on an indiarubber ringinserted in a groove in the neck or mouth of the bottle; and it consists in aframe constructed with an upper and lower bridge,in combination with one or more vertical followers having their stems guided in the upper bridge of the frame, one or more upwardlyprojeeting nipples on the lower bridge of the frame, having their axes approximately coincident with the axes of the followers, and having fitted thereon india-rubber or other suitable packing-rings and faucets connected to the nipples respectively, so that if the bottle from which the liquid is to be drawn isinverted, and the mouth thereof is placed over either of the nipples while the appropriate follower is caused to descend on the base or bottom thereof, the bottle is forced upon the nipple and the stopper is displaced,allowingthe liquid to flow into the nipple, thence to be drawn through the faucet, the packing-ring of the nipple forming a tight joint with the mouth of the bottle.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation, omitting the faucets. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section.

The letter A designates the frame; B 0, its bridges; D, the followers 5 E, the nipples F,
their packing-rings; and G, Fig. 2, one of the faucets.
The frame A is designed to be secured to a suitable base, and the bridges B C are on the upper and lower parts thereof respectively, the space between them being graduated to the height or length of the bottles for which the apparatus is intended.
Each of the followers D is a fixture of astem, 3, which extends vertically through a suitable guide in the upper bridge, B,of the frame, and the motion of the followers is produced in a lower direction by means of cam-levers 4, having their cams arranged upper ends of the stems, and in an upper direction by the action of springs 5 coiled on the stems. Other means can be used for operatin g the followers. Said followers D,m0reover, are made in the form of disks, having a slightlylarger diameter than the bottles respectively, and having a downwardly-projecting rim, 6, which is partially cutaway to facilitate the adjustment of the bottles under the followers.
The nipples E project upwardfrom thelower bridge, 0, of the frame at such a part thereof that the axes of the nipples coincide approxim atel y with the axes of the followers D, and the nipples maybeleft open at the top or provided with lateral perforations. Said nipples E form continuations of ways 7, (see Fig. 2,) extending vertically and horizontally through the bridge 0, and the faucets G are inserted in the horizontal limbs of these ways for the purpose of connecting them to the nipples; but faucets can also be connected directly to the nipples, if desired.
The packing-rim gs F, composed of india-rubher or other suitable material, are fitted on the nipples E and terminate below the upper ends thereof, the upper ends of the rings being preferably beveled and their lower ends resting on washers S.
In applying the apparatus to use,themouth of the bottle containing theliquid to be drawn is placed over either of the nipples E, and the follower D above such nipple is caused to descend on the inverted bottom of the bottle,tht latter being suitably adjusted for this purpose and in this manner the bottle is forced upor the nipple, causing its stopper to become dis to impinge against the placed thereby, as indicated in Fig. 1, and allowing the liquidto flow into the nipple, whence it may be drawn through the appropriate faucet G whenever required, leakage or waste of the liquid from the bottle being effectually prevented by the joint formed with the mouth thereof by the packing-rings.
It will be readily understood that the working parts of the apparatus can be increased or diminished at will to accommodate a greater or less number of bottles.
I claim-- The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set-forth, of theframeconstructed with an upper and lower bridge, the ertical followers (one or more) having their stems guidedin the upper bridge of the frame, the upwardly-pro jectingnipples (one or more) on thelower bridge of the frame having their axes approximately havingfitted thereoniudia-rubber or other suitable packing-rings, and the faucets connected to the nipples respectively, for the purpose specified.
