1 Claim. (01. 211-425) This invention relates to a knock-down display stand and has for its object to support items in a position for inspection by prospective customers.
Another object is to facilitate the display of wares such as meats and the like in refrigerated show cases and to give the illusion of bulk to the products being displayed.
A further object is to facilitate the shipping of the display stand so that it will occupy but a minimum amount of space during transportation or storage. 1
The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a pair of side walls, the perimeters of which have identical shapes, a pair of braces adapted to be detachably connectedto the side walls to hold the lower edges thereof in spaced parallel relation, out-turned flanges at the upper edges of the side walls, a cover detachably connected to the flanges and extending across the space between the upper edges of the side walls, an inturned flange along the forward edge of each side wall, a rearwardly extending lip at the lower end of each inturned flange, a downturned flange at the forward edge of the cover and a removable panel slidably supported on the lips between the inturned flanges and the downturned flange.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display stand embodying the features of this invention,
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the front panel removed,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the front panel,
Figure 4 is a side view partially in section of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along the line 55 of Figure 4,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view illustrating the flanges joining the side walls and the cover,
Figure 7 is a fragmentary enlarged detail view of the lower edge of a side wall, and
Figure 8 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through the lower front corner of the device.
Referring to the drawings in detail, this improved display stand designated generally Ill comprises side walls II and Hi, the perimeters of which are co-extensive. The front and rear edges of the side walls incline upwardly and rearwardly, and formed along the front edge of each side wall is a flange I3, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter described. The bottom edge of each side wall is bent upwardly and inwardly as at M in Figure 7, and formed at the upper edge of each'side wall is a flange l5 which as illustrated in Figure 6 curves outwardly and downwardly to form a longitudinally extending channel It the purpose of which Will be more fully hereinafter explained. Each side wall is provided near its lower edge adjacent each end with a bolt receiving opening I! through which attaching bolts l8 are adapted to extend.
The removable front panel above referred to comprises a substantially rectangular sheet of relatively stiif material 28 of a size to fit between the side walls II and I2 beneath the flanges [3. The opposite dimension of the plate 28 is such as to extend from an inturned lip 29 at the lower end of each flange l3 to the upper edge of the respective side wall. If so desired, the plate 23 may be provided on one face with perpendicular prongs 30 upon which the item to be displayed may be impaled. Obviously, if so desired, the plate may be provided with any advertising matter, and in some instances, the plate on the side opposite that from which the prongs til project may be supplied with any suitable legend.
During shipment, the parts disassembled will occupy but a minimum amount of space, and when it is desired to set up the device for use, the side walls H and I2 are arranged in spaced parallel relation and joined together by the cross bars 19 with the bolts l8 thrust through the openings H in the side walls and the apertures formed in the perpendicular extensions 20 of the cross bars. The covers 2| and 22 or either one of these covers alone may be then slid longitudinally along the upper edges of the side walls H or l2 with the extensions 26 received in the longitudinal groove or recess l6 formed by the flange [5. In this way, the cover will serve to hold the upper edges of the side walls in proper spaced relation. With the cover moved to the extreme forward position, the plate 28 may be introduced into the forward end of the device beneath the flanges 13 to extend between the side walls and rest against the forward edge of-- the foremost cross member I '9 and thedowntilrriedflange 21 at the forwardenti of the respective cover. The plate will be held against falling out by means of the lips 29, and with the spikes or pins 30 extending-outwardlyritis obvious that the merchandise to be displayed may be impaled thereon for inspe'etion by'prc spective customers. v
By the use of the device, adispla y of-mercham dise such as meat, cheese or the'like may be produced which gives the appearance of mass and at the same time, the bulliiof the product on display may be" held inreserve as fo'r" instance in a refrigerator.
While: in the foregoingthere has-been shown and described the preferred: embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the" detai1s--ofconstruction; combination and arrangement of: parts may .be resorted to without departing from the spirit-and=scope of the inventiori as claimed.
Having described the -invention what is-claimed a'smew-is:
A knockdown meafwjacle comprising apair of elongated spaced I parailel side walls each: having an upwardly and rearwardly inclined front edge, aninturnedflange extendingalong. each front edge'of eachside wall, a rearwardly extending lip at the lower end of each flange, an outturned flange at the upper longitudinal edge of each side wall, a cover comprising forward and rear separable sections, said sections extending between the upper edges of the side walls, flanges along opposite side edges of the cover sections slidably engaging the out-turned flange at the upper edges of the side walls, a downwardly inclined flange at the forward edge of the forward coversectiema removableti'arisversely extending brace joining tlielowef'edges of theside' walls in closely spaced relation to the inturned flanges, a removable panel slidably supported on the lips betweemthainturned flanges of the side walls, the downturned flange of the cover and the forward eizlge'o flthe brace, said downwardly inclined flange of the forward cover section supporting the upper edgeof the-panel, and meat supporting spikes projecting perpendicularly from the display panels KENNETH D.
