This invention relates to a yarn carrier, commonly known as a pin board, for holding packages of yarn such as bobbins, cops, spools and the like, and is capable of many uses one of which is illustrated in the patent to Geier No. 2,446,416 of Augut 3, 1948.
These pin boards are provided with a plurality of upstanding pins onto which spools or bobbins are placed and it is highly desirable that these pin boards be capable of being stacked one upon the other for storage or transporting purposes without damage to the yarn packages disposed thereon.
It is an object of this invention to provide a pin board for holding a plurality of yarn packages, such as spools, having a plurality of uprising pins disposed on its bottom portion and having end portions of a height greater than the height of the spools carried thereby and with the end portions having means for receiving a superposed pin board and holding it against longitudinal and lateral sliding movement and holding its bottom portion out of contact with the upper ends of the spools disposed on the pin board therebelow.
Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an isometric view of the improved pin board;
' Figure 2 is a side elevation of the pin board and showing a portion of a superposed pin board in dotted lines;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 33 in Figure 2;
Figure 4' is a vertical sectional view'taken along the line 4-4 in Figure 3 and showing a portion of a superposed pin board resting on one of the corner portions of the lower pin board.
Referring more specifically to the drawings the numeral I broadly indicates an endless rectangular member such as a wire having side 6 Claims. (Cl. 242130) portions 6 and I and end portions 8 and 9. To
the upper side portions 6 and I are spot welded transverse wires II, l2, I3 and I4 and on the,
top surfaces of these wires II to I 4,- inclusive,- are welded longitudinally extending wires 20, 2|, 22 and 23, the ends of which are welded to the upper surface of the end portions 8 and 9 of the rectangular base member III. The end portions of the wires I I to I4, inclusive'are bent upwardly j slightly so that the end portions of the wires II to I4, inclusive, will occupy the same hori-f zontal plane as the wires to 23 inclusive.
2 Welded to the top surfaces of the ends of wires I I to I4, inclusive, are'the side portions 26 and 21 of a rectangular top member which has upwardly inclined legs 30 and 3| atone end joined together by a horizontally disposed portion 32 while at the other end of the portions 26 and 21 there are upwardly inclined portions 35 and 36 which are. joined together by a transverse portion 31. Transverse portions 32 and 31 are disposed further apart than the end portions of the rectangular base member I0.
Welded to the top surfaces of the ends of the longitudinal wires 20 to 23, inclusive, is a base portion 40 of a substantially U-shaped member which has upstanding legs 4| and 42 which extend upwardly over the transverse" portion 32 and then downwardly and inwardly and then upwardly and then downwardly again and upwardly to provide a hook or saddle 44 at one end and continues in the form' of a leg 45 downwardly in parallel relation to the portion 4| where it is welded to one end of the rectangular base portion Ill. The leg 42 likewise extends upwardly and over the transverse portion 32 and then downwardly and upwardly over the top of transverse portion 32 to form a notch or saddle 46. The wireafter the loop 46 is formed extends downwardly as at 41 and islikewise welded to one end'of the rectangular base portion I0.
The other end of the pin board has the same arrangement and is identical to that just described and an additional description is not deemed necessary as like reference characters will apply with the prime notation added. The longitudinal wire members 20 to 23, inclusive, have secured thereto and rising upwardly therefrom suitable pins 50 having a shoulder portion 5| on their lower ends to hold the lower ends of bobbins or spools in spaced relation'to the Wires 20 to'23, inclusive; to prevent chafing of the yarns as these pins are adapted to receive suitable yarn'packages such as spools, bobbins, cops and the like.
These pin boards'whether filled with yarn, or empty, can be stacked one upon the other as illustrated inFigures 2 and 3 and when this is done, the transverse end portions 8 and 9 rest in the loops 44, 46 and 44' and 46', respectively, to prevent endwise movement of the same, and in view of the :factv that the U-shaped portions 44, 46 and 44' and46' extend upwardly between the side portion 6-fa1idwire' 20 and theside por tion I and wire 23 at-each end thereof prevents lateral shifting movement of the top yarn carrier relative to the bottom yarn carrier except tions and. secured thereto and also having a plurality of longitudinally extending spaced members having their ends secured to the top surfaces of the end portions and also secured to the top surfaces of the transversely disposed spaced members, a plurality of spaced uprising pins secured to the longitudinally extending spaced members, substantially U-shaped end portions having their lower portions. welded to the upper surfaces of the ends of the longitudinally extending spaced members and being bent inwardly downwardly and again upwardly to provide a like, a rectangular base member, a plurality of spaced transverse parallel members having their ends secured to the side portions of the base member, a plurality of longitudinally extending spaced members having their ends secured tothe end portions of the base member and being also secured to the top surfaces of the transverse spaced members, a top frame member comprising side-portions secured to the top surfaces of the ends of the transverse members and saidside portions of the top frame member extending upwardly and outwardly in an inclined, position to project substantially beyond a vertical plane passing through the end. portions of the rectangular base member, the upper ends .of the outwardly and upwardly inclined portion being joined together by a handle member disposed in parallel relation to the end portions of the bottom member, a substantially U-shaped member for each endcf the pin board having its bottom portion welded to the top surfaces of the ends of the longitudinally extending spaced members and having its legs projecting upwardly and over the handle portions joiningthe top ends of the upwardly and outwardly inclined portions, the legs of said U -shaped members thenbeing bent downwardly andinwardly and then upwardly to form notches and then being bent downwardly and upwardly to conform to the first downwardly and. upwardly bent portions and passing over the top of the handle portions joining the upper ends of the upwardly andoutwardly inclined portions and extending downwardly and having their lower ends welded to the end portion of the rectangular base member thus providing hooks for the reception of the end portions of the base member of another pin board when placed in superposed relation relative to the pin board therebe'low.
2. A pin board comprising a rectangular base member having .end portions and side portions integral with. each other and having a plurality of transverse and longitudinall extending .mem-
hers welded to each other .and to the top surfaces .of the side and end portions of the rectangular base member, a vU -shaped member welded to the .ends of. the longitudinally extending members and extending upwardly and outwardly and having its upper ends bent inwardly and downwardly and then upwardly to form hook-s, an additional rectangular member having side portions welded to the top surfaces of the transversely disposed spaced members and having its end portions extending upwardly and outwardly and joined together by a horizontally disposed handle member extending beneath and secured to the uprising portions having the hooks on their upper ends.

A pin board comprising a rectangular base member having side portions and end portions and having a plurality of transversely disposed spaced members extending between the side porhook on each of the upper ends of the U-shaped members, an additional rectangular side bracing member having side portions welded to the top surfaces of the ends of the transversely disposed spaced members and extending upwardly and outwardly and being joined together by a transversely disposed handle member passing beneath the first-named bends of the U-shaped members and being welded thereto.
4. .A pin. board comprising a rectangular base member having side portions. and end portions and having transverse and longitudinally disposed spaced members forming a mesh bottom for the same, end members extending upwardly and outwardly away from each other and then extending inwardly toward each other at their upper ends to provide hook portions for receiving the end portions of a second, pin board stacked thereon, a bracing. rectangular member having its side portions welded on top of the ends of the transversely disposed members and extending upwardly and being joined together by a horizontally extending handle portion passing beneath the hooked portions on the upper ends of the. end members.

In a pin board having a bottom and upwardly and outwardly inclined members secured to each end thereof and having inwardly formed hooks. on their upper ends and a. handle member passing beneath said hooks and extending downwardly and inwardly towards each other at an inclined angle and being joined together by a continuous member welded to the bottom portion.
6. In a :pin board having a substantially rectangular frame and also having a plurality of upstanding pins mounted on the frame, and said frame. having openings at each corner thereof, upwardly and outwardly inclined end portions 0n opposed ends of said frame, upwardly and outwardly inclined rods at opposed ends of said frame and in substantial alinement with said openings, each of said rods being bent over the outer upper edge of said end portions and then extending downwardly and inwardly at an angle and then being bent upwardly and inwardly at an angle to form a notch for reception of the lower edge of a like pin board, the free upper ends of said rods being adapted to project into the openings of a like pin board supported in said notches.
