FISHING GAME Filed April l1, 1946 ATTORNEYS Patented `lan. 31? 195() UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FISHING GAME Edmund Sheldon Kelley, Lincolnton, Ga.
Application April 11, 1946, Serial No. 661,450
1 Claim.
The invention relatesto a game playing assembly, and more especially to a fishing game apparatus.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein a box like receptacle has a top area eiecting an imitative shing locality for the acquiring of miniature items coniined within and concealed from view in the receptacle, through fishing tactics by competitive players of a game of fishing as carried out through the use of the apparatus, thus affording amusement and entertainment to the player participants.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein the same in its entirety is novel in construction and unique in the assembly of component parts thereof, so that those playing the game will have surprises and enjoyment during the progress of the game by imitative fishing maneuvering in the use of the apparatus.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of -this character, wherein variable items can be acquired by fishing tactics of the players of the game as played by the said apparatus, and the results being fascinating and jubilant to participants in the playing of the game.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, which is comparatively simple in construction, neat in appearance, attractive in the playing of the game thereby, affording amusement to the young and elders and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a side edge elevation, partly broken away thereof;
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the lower body section of the apparatus detached from its upper section.
Figure 4 is a deployed view in perspective of a group of playing pieces used in the playing of a game by the apparatus.
Figure 5 is an elevation of one of a series of fishing poles employed in the game played by the apparatus.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the game apparatus in its entirety constituting the present invention, comprises a box like recpetacle or casing generally denoted at A, and includes a bottom body section l including a lower panel and a top covering section l l having an upper panel, respectively, the latter detachably telescopes over the bottom section I0, and in this condition creates an interior compartment I2 to the receptacle. At each siding i3 to the bottom section lll are spaced crosswise aligned holes i4 preferably located at the transverse center of such section, while carried by the siding l5 of the top section il for registry with a hole lll is a latching stud or lug i6 for detachable engagement therein so that these sections lil and Il will be separably fastened together, as best seen .in Figure 2 of the drawing.
Rising from the transverse median of the sidextension wings l'l, which are passed through clearances therefor provided in the top section I l,
so as to rise above the upper surface I8 of the latter in a vertical upstanding position. Each face confronting the surface i8 of each wing Il is adapted to display a boat and fishermen therein, not shown, each sherman being posed as.` in the act of shing, through the use of a shing line, from the area of the surface i8, which is colored to be imitative of a body of water as a fishing zone.
Built upon the surface I8 next to each wing Il is a rack I9 of a size to accommodate a play directing chart 20, which bears spaced columnar numerically arranged digits 2l, ranged from the numeral l to a determined greater numeral, as for example: 51 yet it may be of a greater numerical value, selectively. At opposite sides of each rack i9 are laterally directed identifying traps 22 and 23 respectively, one beingI titled Junk pile and the other Fish box, for the placement of articles or items accordingly therein by competitive players of a game played by the apparatus by iishing tactics required thereby.
Provided in the top section il at the surface IB thereof is a series or group of spaced circular holes 2li, with counterbores providing counterseating shouldered edges 25, and adapted to cover such holes are removable disks 26, for releasable seating on the shoulder edges 25, the disks being identified at their outermost exposed faces with numerals 27 which coincide with those appearing in the charts 2G, and by arrangement of the disks such numerals are allocated in hap-hazard fashion throughout the area of the surface I8 or in other Words they are not in numerical appearing order with respect thereto.
Hung from each of the disks t6 to be conned Within the compartment IZ and concealed by the receptacle A within the same is an irni tative species of an item or article, generally denoted at B, which may be miniature of an image of a live sh, snake, tree branch, heat, hearicap, turtle, other Water creatures or anything or kind, and this item or article is suspended from a hanger 28 which is threaded through a slit 29 in the disk 25 carrying the same, and from this hanger there rises above the said disk a ring or loop 3Q, which is designed yto stand upwardly therefrom for the engagement thereof.
Each player of the gaine through the use ci the apparatus is supplied with a fishing pole 3l having a catching tip 32, so that when operated .manually it will hook a ,ring or loop dil for the catching of a disk andthe raising thereof from the hole covered thereby, for extracting and the catch of an image, item or article B suspended from such f. and previously conu fined. Within the receptacle A, as a fishing a* d.
The apparatus-,further .involves a deck or play- ,.ing cards, each identified at 33. and provided with `a Window 3N, located at a determined area thereof, and .fdiierently disposed with respect to other similar cards of a group assigned to a given. player from the deck thereof. This windenY is located in the card to expose separately a sin le numeral 2i appearing on the chart when this particular card is placed in matching rela- 3,1-,
Ation over the latter. By reversing a card the holder thereof has the privilege of the execution of two plays in connection with the chart 2d assigned to a player of the game in the use oi the apparatus. had in the number of cards 33 up a playing deck thereof comparable with the large range of disk numerals 2l as spread upon the top surface i8 of the top section il of the receptacle A.
In this manner a reduction is When a player of the game has been supplied with a group of playing cards 33 from the deck, after shuffling or reshuilling thereof, he places a selected card of the group on to the chart E!! under assignment thereof, and the Window 3d will expose a determined numeral 2i of this chart, which identifies a like numeral on a disk 26 that must be fished hy such player, by the pole 3i in the possession of the latter, whence under extraction of vrthe disk caught, the item or article carried thereby, will be the award to this player. Now, the winner of the game, is he or she acquiring the larger number of awards by catch from the receptacle A, particularly the fish specie.
When the dealt cards have been spent by all participant `players of the game of fishing, the game having come to an end: The cards are reshuilied for a repeat game or another game. The awards acquired by the players are deposited yin the traps 22 and 2.3 as controllanti' the respective players,
What is claimed is:
a game board., `the combination which ,oomprises a hollew rectangular `shaped casing having spaced upper and lower panels onnected by side end wy is, thepsaid upper panel having spaced openings therein, closures positioned .in the said openings, `loops .extended upwardly trein said closures by the Vclosures may oe raised from the openings, articles positioned the casing and suspended from the closureaand traps positioned on each side of the game board for the placement of articles therein.
