This invention is concerned with the provision of a roller surfacer by means of which the sur" face of the exposed face of a concrete block, while in` the mold box of a concrete block molding machine, .may be pressed smooth as the service han per, with which said means is connected, is longitudinally urged over the mold box and to the rear of said machine, carrying with it surplus concrete scraped thereby from said mold box.
As the service hopper of the concrete block machine is urged over the mold box thereof and to the rear thereof, surplus material is scraped from the top of the mold box causing a rough surface on the exposed surface of the freshly molded block and also rough edges, giving the block an unlinished appearance which is carried to a wall structure of said blocks and which is disapproved for block structures of the better class, therefore, the broad object of this invention is to provide a surfacing means oi the type which consists generally of a roller which is engaged with and drawn by the service hopper, during its rearward movement over the mold box, and which, under a regulated pressure on said block surface, smooths same am; gives a finish to the edges of the block, after surplus material has been scraped therefrom by the hopper.
A further object of this invention is to provide a means whereby as the exposed surface o a freshly molded block is pressure rolled for smoothing the same and finishing the edges thereof, thev said surface is longitudinally dished as between the outer walls of the block and the central cells therein, thereby adapting Lin: blocks for better transverse bonding and making said bonding more substantial as against side loads on a wall formed of said blocks.
This invention resides substantially in the combination. arrangement, construction,
rangement and relative location of parts, all in accordance with the disclosure herein.

The true nature and manner of use of this device in accordance with this invention will be (Cl. 25u21) best understood by detailed description of the forni thereof shown in the drawings in an illus-1 trative sense. l
- Now referring more particularlyto theidrawings A designates, in general, a conventional serv-- ice hopper, in combination with which this invention is based and actuated, and of a type which is longitudinally slidable on the bed of a block molding machine, a portion of which is illustrated in the drawings and indicated as B.
In the combining of this invention with said hopper A there is pivotally engaged upon the side walls 2 thereof, as at 3, bearing brackets 4, employed to afford bearing for a roller shaft 5 Ijournaled therein and which carries roller l.
Said roller 'l is preferably as shown, of rubber, of a length substantially corresponding to the inside width of the mold box 6 of said machine, with allowance or freedom of rolling action of said roller when rolled thereover for contact with a freshly molded block in said mold box, to press smooth the exposed surface thereof.
Also mounted upon said shaft 5 and adjacent the opposite outer ends of the roller 1 are relatively narrow rubber rollers 8; which track upon the machine bed during longitudinal movement of the service hopper; the diameter of which is reduced as to the roller 'l for contact of the roller 'l with the block surface in the mold box, when rolled thereover, even under light pressure from an adjustable pressure means, comprising an angular bracket member 9; which is xedly engaged upon the outer face of the side walls by welding same thereto or through other desirable means; above the bearing brackets 4, the lateral portion of said member 9 being in a vertical plane to the bearing bracket and carrying a set screw which is active upon the bearing bracket by swinging same upon its pivotal point 3, in that, as the set screw is turned down the bearing end of the bracket 4 is urged downward thereby exerting pressure on the shaft 5 and therethru on the roller 1, and obviously, as the set screw pressure is released on the bracket 4, pressure on the rubber roller 1 is released, thereby, allowing the resiliency of said roller to relieve pressure thereon thru an action in reverse to that of the set screw and wherein thru the shaft 5 the bearing ends of the brackets 4 are swung upward.
While one desirable embodiment of the invention has been shown by way of example it is to be understood that the present invention is broadly inclusive of any and all equivalent con- 3 structions falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A surfacer and finishing device for a machine having a mold box with material exposing area, comprising a material dispensing hopper leading to the box thru the exposed area, mounted to traverse the latter, means to scrape surplus material from the box and rotatable surfacer means drawn by the hopper, on its rearward movement and confronting the exposed area and exerting pressure upon the mold box content during movement of the hopper for surfacing said box content after surplus material has been scraped therefrom.
2. A surfacer and iinishing device for a machine having a mold box with material exposing area, comprising a material dispensing hopper leading to the box thru the exposed area, mounted to traverse the latter, and adapted to scrape surplus material from the box, rotatable surfacer means drawn by the hopper during rearward movement thereof, and confronting the exposed area and exerting pressure upon the mold box content during movement of the hopper for surfacing the box content, after surplus material has been scraped therefrom, and means coacting with the means for varying the pressure action thereof on such content.
3. A surfacer and nishing device for a ma.- chine having a. mold box with a material exposing area, comprising a material dispensing hopper leading to the box thru the exposed area, mounted to traverse the latter, including means to remove surplus material from the box, and rotatable roller surfacer means drawn by the hopper, and confronting the exposed area, including swivel brackets carrying said roller means, pivotally connected with said hopper and exerting pressure upon the mold box content.
