4 Claims.
This invention relates to a radiator cover and more particularly to a cover which is intended for baseboard radiators such as commonly used along the walls of a room.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a cover which may be easily mounted upon such radiators, and which is economical to produce, as well as highly efficient in its operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a cover which may be secured directly to a radiator unit of conventional form without requiring hangers, or other fastening means such as have been heretofore secured to the walls adjacent the radiators, for mounting the covers mounted to a baseboard radiator of conventionalk form.
Fig. 2 is a front view of an end portion of said cover, with a part thereof broken away to show the construction.
As illustrated in the drawings, the numeral 5 denotes a wall of a room to which are secured suitable brackets 6-6 which support radiator units of conventional form such as commonly including a heat medium conductor tube 1 and a plurality of spaced heat radiating fins 8 which are mounted upon said tube.
This invention is directed to the provision of a cover 9, for said radiator, which may be mounted thereon by a simple operation and without requiring special connections or fastening means.
Such a cover is preferably constructed of a ltingle piece of sheet metal bent to provide front, top and rear portions I0, II and I2, respectively. The top portion is preferably perforated to permit circulation of air under saidcover, upwardly through said radiator units and through the said openings in the top portion.
It will be noted that the rear portion I2 extends downwardly from the top portion and parallel to the front portion I0. This permits the `said rear portion to be moved laterally so as to `engage the fins 8 of the upper radiator unit between said rear portion and the front portion l0.
the said cover may be rmly secured to the radiator by tightening the bolt I3 so as to draw upon the rear section I2 and thereby clamp the radiator fins between the said rear and front portions.
If desired, another bolt I5 may be used to secure the lower portion of the cover against a lower radiator unit, in which case a washer I6 may be provided to extend across a pair of fins on said radiator and provide a support for the nut I1 to permit tightening of the bolt I5 so as to rmly secure the lower portions of the cover against the edges of the ns of the lower radiator.
It will be understood that the radiator cover, herein described may be readily attached to and detached from the radiator by simply loosening the bolts and raising said cover so that the bolts and the rear section I2 may be passed over the radiator units.
I claim:
1. For a radiator including a conductor tube having a plurality of spaced ns thereon, a cover having a front portion, a top portion and a rear portion depending downwardly from the top portion, and means for supporting the cover on the radiator extending between said front and rear portions of the cover and adapted to rest upon the said conductor tube and thereby support said cover over said fins.
2. For a radiator comprising a tubular conductor having a plurality of spaced fins thereon, a cover comprising a front portion, a top portion and a rear portion depending downwardly from the top portion and parallel to the said front portion, and a bolt extending through said front and rear portions and adapted to rest upon said tubular conductor between said fins for supporting said cover over the radiator.
3. For a radiator comprising a tubular conductor having a plurality of spaced fins mounted thereon, a cover comprising a member formed from a single piece of sheet metal and including a front portion, a top portion and a rear portion extending downwardly from the top portion, and
fastening means connecting said front and rear- 4. For a radiator comprising a plurality of units each including a tubular conductor having a plurality of spaced fins mounted thereon, a cover comprising a member formed of a. single piece of sheet metal formed to provide a front portion, at
