Description

(No Model.)
S. P. WETHERIL L PARLOR QUOIT. No. 248,901.- Patented Nov. 1,1881.
INVENTOR:
NiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL P. WETHERILL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PARLOR-QUOIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,901, dated November 1, 1881. Application filed August 1, 1881. (No model To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL P. WETHERILL, of the city ot'Philadelphi-a,in the State ot'Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Parlor-Quoits, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a quoit which can be used within do0r on carpeted or uncarpeted floors, without indenting or injuring the floors or furniture.
My invention consists of a quoit formed of soft vulcanite, weighted with metallic or mineral substances, as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of one of said quoits; Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same on the line :0 00 of Fig. 3, showing a metallic plate or ring embedded in the vulcanite; Fig. 3, a vertical section of the same on the line y y of Fig. 2.
(t represents the vulcanite body; b, Figs. 2 and 3, a ring or plate of metal surrounded by or embedded in the vulcanite. The ring I) is provided with anumber of openings, 0, through which the vulcanite unites in the process of molding the quoit, and thus holds the ring more securely in its place. As the object in view in the use of this plate is simply to secure for the vulcanite quoit a weight more nearly approximating that of an iron quoit of similar size, the ring form of the plate I) is not material; and instead of weighting the vulcanite with a metal plate, such as plate I), barytes, or the oxide or carbonate of lead, or other mineral or metallic substances, may be incorporated into the vulcanite in the proportions required to efl'ect the purpose of weighting.
1 claim- As a new manufacture; a parlor-quoit made of vulcanite, weighted by the incorporation therewith of a metallic or mineral substance,
substantially as set forth.
