Application August 18, 1947, Serial No. 769,278
3 Claims- (Cl. 285-33) This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in mounting bases for closet bowls, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herein described which may be conveniently and effectively employed for mounting the closet bowl upon the drain pipe in such manner as to prevent the possibility of leakage.
A further object of the invention is to provide a mounting base which, by eliminating the possibility of leakage, substantially enhances the sanitary aspects of the entire assembly.
Another object of the invention is to provide a closet bowl mounting base which may be quickly and easily installed in position and. which may be adjusted with equal expediency, so as to accommodate closet bowls of various types and sizes.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a closet bowl mounting base which is simple in construction, which will readily lend itself to economical manufacture, and which is otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which it is intended.
With the above more important objects in view and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the construction and arrangement of parts as shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a closet bowl, partially broken away so as to show the invention in association therewith,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the invention per se, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the supports used in the invention.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a mounting base designated generally by the reference character iii, such as may be conveniently and effectively employed for securing any conventional closet bowl H to the floor or foundation l2 and to the drain pipe l3 with which the closet bowl is associated.
The bowl ii is usually equipped with a base flange it which, in turn, is provided in the under surface thereof with a substantially circular recess IE to receive a flange I6 positioned on the pipe l3.
The base flange M of the bowl H is also 2 M in which suitable bolts ll, [8 are positioned for the purpose of securing the closet bowl to the floor [2. However considerable difficulty is usually experienced in securing the bolts I1, l8 to the floor in such manner that they properly register with the apertures l4 and it is the primary purpose of this invention to eliminate this disadvantage.
The mounting base I0 embodies in its construction the usual flange l6 which is mounted on the pipe I3 and is somewhat larger in diameter with respect thereto, so as to accommodate an annular filler or caulking material [9, as is best shown in Figure 1. The flange I6 is provided in the marginal portion thereof with a pair of diametrically opposed recesses or slots 20, in which the bolts ll may be conveniently secured.
An elongated plate 2| is secured at one end thereof by welding, or the like, to the flange IS, the plate 2l preferably being of a substantially U-shaped configuration, as is shown in Figure 2.
The plate 21. is provided with pairs of transversely aligned guides 22 which, in turn, are adapted to slidably receive complementary guide rails 23 secured to or formed integrally with a pair of adjustable supports 24. The guides 22 as well as the rails 23 are of what may 'be referred to as a tongue and groove type, as is best shown in Figures 1 and 3.
Suitable set screws 25 are provided in the plate 2| and are engageable with the rails 23, whereby the position of the supports 24 with respect to the plate 2| may be adjusted as desired.
Each of the supports 24 is of an elongated boxlike construction (as is best shown in Figure 3) and is equipped with a longitudinally extending slot 26, terminating at one end thereof in an enlarged opening 21. As will be clearly apparent, the slots 26 are adapted to receive the aforementioned bolts [8, and the openings 21 facilitate the insertion of the bolt heads 28 into the slots.
When the invention is placed in use, the flange I6 is first mounted upon the pipe l3 so that it is received in the recess [5 of the bowl II, and the bolts I! are secured in the recesses 20 of the flange it, as has been already explained. Thereupon, the bolts [8 are secured in the slots 26, and it will be apparent that by virtue of the slots, the position of the bolts [6 may be adjusted longitudinally, as indicated by the arrows 29, so as to accommodate the particular type and size of the closet bowl employed.
Furthermore, by adjusting the position of the supports 24 with respect to the plate 2|, the posiequipped ith a plurality of a ertures or bores tion of the bolts It may be adjusted transversely,
as indicated at 3|], whereby the entire closet bowl may be quickly, easily and conveniently mounted in position.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A mounting base for closet bowls, comprising a plate provided with a drain pipe receiving and bowl attaching flange, a pair of spaced sup ports mounted on said plate and formed with openings, a plurality of bowl securing elements positioned in said openings, and means for varying the spacing of said supports on said plate.
2. A mounting base for closet bowls, comprising a plate provided with a drain pipe reeciving and bowl attaching flange, a pair of spaced supports slidable transversely on said plate and formed with parallel and longitudinally extending slots, means for locking said supports on said plate in a predetermined spaced relation, and blow] securing bolts adjustably positioned in said 5 ots.
3. The device as defined in claim 2 together with guide rails provided on said supports, said plate being formed with guides to slidably receive said rails, and said means comprising looking screws provided in said plate and engageable with said guide rails.
