(Cil 12S-24.1)
7 Claims.
This invention relates to an electrically heated applicator.
An object of this invention is to provide a novel and eiiicient applicator for applying heat and liquid simultaneously to the skin, and the applicator is primarily intended to be used in giving `beauty facial treatments.
Another object is the construction of a novel applicator for applying heat to the face and neck, thereby opening the pores, andat the same .time releasing a certain amount offliquid and massaging the same into the open pores.
A still further object of this invention is the construction of an applicator, which, at the time vthat the skin is being massaged, will allow oil to penetrate into the pores, causing the skin to assume a finer texture; this treatment removes all dirt and foreign matter from the pores.
This application discloses improvements over the invention disclosed in my prior patent, No. 2,385,501, issued September 25, 1945, Electrically I heated applicator.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, rillustrated A inthe accompanying drawings, and more particu- Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken on line 3-3,l V Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrow-s.
Figure 4 is an enlarged, longitudinal, sectional View of the handle of the applicator.
preferred embodiment of Vthis invention is illustrated, I ydesignates the body, 2 is the hollow neck, and 3 is the handle of the applicator.,
The body I comprises a primary section 4 with an auxiliary or cap section 5 thereon. The hollow neck section 2 is flxedly secured in any suitable manner to the auxiliary section 5. At the -center of the primary section 4 is an upstanding annular flange 6, which receives the lower or outer end of the primary sleeve '1, Fig. 2. The flange 6 and sleeve 'l are xedly secured together by any ordinary means. The primary ysleeve l extends above the cap or auxiliary section 5, and the extended end is externally threaded, and on this threaded portion is threaded the auxiliary sleeve 8 (Fig. 2). The auxiliary sleeve 8 is normally tight against the auxiliary ysection 5, whereby the primary section 4 and through the primary sleeve 1 and annular bottle rest 9. This screw I0 performs a dual function, to wit: it securely holds the bottle rest 9 in position and at the same time acts as a thread for threading the container or bottle I I into position. The bottle II is provided with threads I2 that are screwed upon the inner end of screw I0 when the bottle is being positioned Within the applicator.
A brake device is provided for securely holding the bottle II in position against accidental displacement. This brake device comprises a coil spring I3 (Fig. 3) that surrounds the lower portion of the primary sleeve I. This spring I3 has a V-shaped portion I4 that normally extends through registering apertures in sleeve 1 and bottle rest 9; this V-shaped portion is normally positioned between two contiguous threads on the bottle II (Fig. 2). Therefore, there is always a binding action, in the nature of a brake, exerted on the inserted bottle, which prevents the bottle from having accidental movement.
The handle 3 of the applicator comprises a cylindrical casing I5 on the ends of which are mounted outer cap I 6 and inner cap I'I. Thread- 25.
ed into the inner cap I'I is the hollow neck 2. This hollow neck extends into the cylindrical casing I5 beyond the inner face of the inner cap I 'I. Extending into the outer cap I6 is an externally threaded sleeve I8. On the inner ends Yof the hollow neck 2 and sleeve I8 is threaded the bre tubing I9. A lock ring 20 is on sleeve I8 against the outer face of the outer cap I6. Within the fibre tubing I9 is a xed plate 2l. A regulator screw 22 is mounted on the fibre tubing I9. This screw 22 is to adjust the switch,
blade 23, as the operator desires. The inner end of the switch blade 23 is fastened to the bre tubing I9 by small bolts 24. A slidable switch plate 25 (Fig. 1) is mounted on the cylindrical ca-sing I5 and integral' with this switch plate 25 is a contact lug 26, whereby sliding adjustment of the switch plate 25 longitudinally of the handle will cause the contact lug to either move away from contact with the switch blade 23 or into contact therewith for closing the circuit. The wire 2l is passed into the fibre tubing I9 and thence wound around said tubing in a coil at 28 and thence passed to the left and inot the hollow neck 2 and body I, forming a heating lcoil 29, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The wire 30 is passed into the libre tubing I9 and is fastened under the nut on one of the bolts 24. Under contact lug 26 is the xed plate 2|. The inner end of wire 3l is fastened under the fixed plate 2| (Fig. 4), whereby when the contact lug 26 is in engagement with the switch blade 23, a complete circuit is created so that electricity is supplied to the heating coil 29, resulting in the body I and the liquid contained in the bottle II being heated,l
as the operator desires.
In Fig. 3, a fluid control device is indicated at 32, Fig. 3. This uid control device is in the container or bottle Il and the detailed construction of this device 32 is specifically disclosed in my copending application iled January 7, 1947, Serial No. 720,579.
The wires 21 and 30 are a part of an ordinary electric plug device, whereby the applicator can be supplied with electricity by plugging in any outlet of a dwelling or building.
When it is desired to take the applicator apart, the operator rst removes the lock ring 20 and then the cap I6, whereupon the cap I1 with the fibre tubing IS and sleeve I8 can be removed from the cylinder casing l5. If the fibre tubing I9 is to be examined, the removal of the sleeve I8 and the hollow neck 20 will permit inspection of the interior of said fibre tubing i9.
When it is desired to examine the interior of the hollow body i, the operator first removes the auxiliary sleeve 8 and then lifts oir the auxiliary section 5, resulting in the exposure of the interior of the primary section il.
I have found from practical experience that this applicator produces excellent results, is easily manipulated, and is durable in construction.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
