1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a legless table that is designed to be attached to a wall or similar support which, when in use, will extend from the wall at right angles thereto, and when not in use, will rest flat against the wall in parallel relation therewith.
An object of the invention is to provide a table that is designed to be attached to a wall and is provided with latching means that will retain it in folded or non-use position or unfolded or use position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a table that is simple in construction, durable and efficient in use, and can be inexpensively7 manufactured for the purpose designed.
With the above and other objects and advantages in View, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an embodiment of the invention in folded position;
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 with the unfolded position shown in dotted lines;
Figure 3 is an interior View of the supporting frame;
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a sectional View on the line 5-5 of Figure 3;
Figure 6 is a bottom plan View of the table and Figure 7 is a sectional view similar to Figure 2 with the table in unfolded position and partly broken away.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the reference numeral I0 designates the supporting frame for the table and comprises the rectangular base II having sides |12 which are provided with elongated slots I3 which extend from the top edge of the sides downward for a maj or portion thereof.
The base II is provided with spaced apertures I4 whereby the frame l0 is secured to a wall l5 or similar support by means of fasteners I6.
Secured to the sides inwardly of the slots I3 and to the inner face of the base I I slightly above the transverse center line thereof is the bar I1 having keeper openings I8 adjacent each end thereof, the use of which will be later explained.
Mounted for sliding movement in the slots I3 is the slide I9 comprising the axles 20 on which is mounted the tubular member 2I' having the apertured wing portions 22 which are secured to the table top 23 adjacent the rear edge thereof on the bottom face thereof by fasteners 24.
The axle 20 is bent at right angles at 25 to form the sides 26 thereof which are provided with contact projections 21 at the top thereof and contact projections 28 at the bottom thereof which engage the bottom of the slot I3.
Secured to the projections 28 inwardly thereof in parallel relation to the axle 20 is the crossbar 29 and angular braces 30 are secured to the projections 2l inwardly thereof and to the crossbar 29 at 3 I, and the braces and crossbar maintain the sides in right angular relation to the aXle in constant contact with the bottom of the slot I3.
Mounted on the bottom face of the top 23 in sliding relation therewith is the latch `frame 32 which compresses the U-shaped member 33 having the curved latch dogs 34 at the ends thereof which curve under the member 2l to engage the keeper openings I8.
Secured to the ends of the member 33 inwardly of the dogs 34 is the crossbar 35 which is parallel to the base of the member 33, and the sides of the member 33 are slidably mounted on the bottom of the top 23 by the curved bracket 33 secured to the top by fasteners 31.
Extending longitudinally ofthe table, and slidably mounted thereon by curved brackets 38 secured to the top 23 by fasteners 39 is the U-shaped control member 40, the ends of which are secured to the bar 35 at 4I, and to the frame 33 at 42, and the base of the member 40 forms the operating handle 43.
Secured to the top 23 on the bottom face thereof is the hinge `portion 44 of the brace bar 45 which is secured by a hinge portion 4B at the opposite end thereof to the base II, and the brace is of a suflicient length to support the top at right angles to the base when the top is in unfolded position as shown in Figure 7.
Secured to the top 23 adjacent the forward edge thereof intermediate the member 40 and inwardly of the handle 43 is the U-shaped bracket 41 which slidably mounts the latch member 48 which is forced into latching position with the keeper 49 secured to the base I I adjacent the bottom thereof by the coil spring 5l! mounted thereon, a washer 5I on the latch member 48 engaging the spring at one end, and the bracket 41 engaging the spring at the opposite end.
The frame 32 has coiled springs 52 secured to the base of the member 33, and two eyes 53 secured to the bottom face top whereby the dogs 34 are retained in their respective keepers I8 until released therefrom by a pull on the handle 43.
In operation, the table top is pulled outwardly from the forward edge thereof after the latch 48 has been released, and the slide I9 will move downwardly in the slots I3 until the dogs 34 engage the keeper openings I8, and the top will then be latched in unfolded position ready for use. To fold the table, the handle 43 is pulled, releasing the dogs, and the rear end of the top is slid upwardly until the latch 48 engages the keeper 49 and the table is retained in folded position. The slide I9 engaging the bottom of the slot will prevent the table top from moving up at its forward end too far, and the 'ilatch dogs will prevent the table top from being lowered until released.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the construction and operation of the fin- Vention will be apparent to those skilled --in -the art, and it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts 'may'beresortedto,'provided they fall -within the spiritof the invention and 'thesco'peof the appended claim.
Having thus described Athe `invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters VPatent is A device of the'ch'arac'ter described, comprising-a supporting frame having a base and parallel sides, Vertical slots in said sides, a frame slidable in said slots, means on said frame for securing a table top thereon, means for supporting said top secured to said top and said supporting frame, and means on the bottom face of said top for latching said top at right angles to said supporting frame, and said last means comprising a U-shaped member, latch dogs on the end of said member, U-shaped controlling means secured to 'said U-shaped member at right angles thereto and spring means secured to said U- shaped member for forcing said latch dogs into akeeper-means secured to said supporting frame.
