roiam. (01. 13a-49) This invention relates to improvements in hair nets.

It has been observed that the usual form of coiiure is almost yalways wavy -and irregular in some degree, and for this reason a hair net, as made heretofore, will not adapt itself readily to the various contours of coiffures, not being elastic enough to do so.

It is one -of the principal objects of the invention to provide a hair net which will readily adjust itself to various sizes and contours of hair dress. Y

A further object is to reinforce those portions of the net which bear the greatest strain Without adding to its conspicuousness.

Still further objects will become apparent in the following specication and the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of the net, pressed closely together, as taken from its container, ready for opening and placing it over the coiffure of the wearer, the outline of the net being indicated in dotted lines, while some of the portions have details of the meshes indicated therein; and

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary diagrammatic development of the crown portion of the net.

Like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the two views and the following specification.

Ill is the -cap part of a hair net composed of a plurality of meshes of strands of human or other hair, silk, rayon, nylon, or other suitable material having an open crown II, and an open bottom I2. The net generally Iconsists of uniformly large meshes I3. Around the crown opening I I, one or more rows of smaller sized meshes I4 are provided.

At selected points, near the crown `opening II, are several larger sized meshes I5 caused by eliminating or drawing together adjoining regular sized or body meshes I3, as disclosed in Patent #1,548,426 issued to -me on August 4, 1925, except that the position of these meshes is as stated before, near the crown opening. These meshes are provided to draw the net closer to the head, causing the crown better to conform to the coiffure.

In the aforesaid patent these extra large sized meshes were located in the main or cap part of the net. I found it to -be more advantageous t-o locate them near or adjacent the rows of small sized meshes at the crown opening, as shown in Patent #2,349,299 issued to me on May 23, 1944.

In this latter patent, however, extra large meshes 55 2 are located only inl one' plan-e substantially-parllel to the edge of the net around the crown opening. It is the particular object of this invention to -increase the elasticity and self-conforming features of a hair net around its crown opening over the net shown in the latter named patent. I accomplish this by providing la plurality of extra large sized meshes in more than one plane substantially equidistant from the edge of the crown opening and parallel to each other, in which the eXtra large sized meshes are staggered in substantially ,a zig-zag formation. This is shown very clearly in Fig. 2 where the extra large sized meshes are indicated by dotted crosses Ia. They are also similarly shown in Fig. 1. The zig-zag or staggered disposition of the extra large sized meshes enables the crown opening an-d the entire upper part of the net to be stretched and so .adjust itself to varying kinds of coiffures considerably in excess of nets heretofore in Iuse.

In all other respects the net is similar to the one shown in Patent #2,349,299 although other forms of nets may also be used in connection with the aforesaid improvements. In the instant application, therefore, at the bottom I2, the net is reinforced by a strand It joining the row of bottom meshes partly around its circumference, and a similar strand Il is provided for, one or more rows of meshes removed from the bottom. At the neck or rear portion of the net, two or more rows of smaller sized meshes I8 project below the bottom periphery of the net. The reinforcing strand I6 at the bottom terminates at this projection of smaller sized meshes. The reinforcing strand II above the strand I6 terminates at the large sized meshes I3 inwardly of the ends of the projection of meshes I8.

In applying the net to the head of a wearer, it is drawn over the coiffure in the vcustomary manner. The crown being open, and because of the small meshes immediately surrounding the opening in combination With the particular disposition of eXtra large sized meshes in the upper part of the net, permits the net to adjust itself more readily to various sizes and kinds of hairdress than in nets as now known in the art. The bottom opening of the net surrounds the lower eX- tremity of the hairdress, and by virtue of its projecting portion of small sized meshes I8 which hug closely the neck portion of the wearer, a good fit is obtained around the bottom of the net. The reinforcing strands i6 and I'I around the bottom opening prevent lateral distortion of the bottom meshes as/eXplained in detail in Patent #2,175,849 issued to me on October 10, 1939,

while the fact that they do not entirely surround the bottom opening, but terminate at, respectively, somewhat within and above the projection of small sized meshes I8 imparts the greatest possible elasticity to the bottom opening without making the front marginal portion of the net conspicuous.

Various changes in the form, proportion and minor details may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.

What I claim as new is:

A hair net of interwoven strands forming a cap portion of large sized meshes, said net having a crown opening and a bottom opening, a plurality of small sized meshes surrounding said crown opening, a plurality of small sized meshes at the neck portion of said bottom opening, and a plurality of eXtra large sized meshes formed A.by eliminating adjoining large sized meshes, said eXtra large sized meshes being distinct and separate from each other and equally spaced in each of two planes parallel to and around said crown opening and staggered with respect to each other so that an extra large sized mesh in one oi said planes is equidistant from two extra large sized meshes in the other of said planes in zig-zag formation, said eXtra large sized meshes being so disposed around the entire net near its crown opening.
