My invention relates to a shoe shining kit or polishing device and an object thereof is to provide a simple, novel and practical device including a holder for a polishing cloth and means within the holder in the form of a compressible tube containing a supply of polish to be extruded through the cloth so that the latter may be used as a dauber for applying the polish to the shoes or other surface and the holder held in the hand for stroking the surface to which the polish has been applied to shine the same.

Another object of the invention is to provide a shoe shining kit or polishing device which includes a body or support for an elongated endless cloth web or band which serves as a polish applicator or dauber and shining or buffing means, the body being adapted to mount a replaceable and renewable compressible tube containing the polish which is extruded from the tube at one end of the holder or body onto the band to apply the polish over the shoes or other surfaces to be shined or polished by stroking the buiiing band back and forth thereover.

Another object is to provide a novel and simple body forming a holder or support for the cloth band, in the form of an elongated flat plate such as plastic with curled ends and over which the band is mounted so that one lap or stretch thereof is firmly held against the flat plate at the bottom and the curled ends and extends between the curled ends at the open top of the holder to also provide a soft exible upper lap or stretch, both laps being used for buiiing and polishing to give better results depending upon the particular parts of the shoe or shape of the surface being polished including recesses or irregular surfaces.

A still further object is to provide a body for supporting the band having convexly round ends one of which is provided with a threaded hole in which the neck of the replaceable and renewable compressible polish-containing and supply tube is mounted to extrude the polish therefrom on the outside of the cloth at one of the rounded ends to eliminate the necessity of using a separate container for the polish and a dauber for applying the polish to the shoes or other surfaces to be buffed by the band, said body having side flanges forming hand hold means to facilitate gripping thereof and stroking and buing closure being provided for the outlet neck of the tube to prevent extrusions of the polish after the same has been applied or when the device is not in use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an applicator and buer band or endless web which is wider than the body to project or overlap each side and curl over the edges of the plate forming the body to prevent the band from slipping therefrom and providing additional sharp daubing and polishing surfaces for conveniently applying the polish'to recesses or irregular surfaces such as the crotch formed by the joining of the upper to the welt and sole or projections thereof and to facilitate accessibility for polishing or bufng at such points.

A further object of this invention is to provide a polisher and applicator wherein the collapsible supply tube can readily be removed for replenishing the supply or changing the color of polish used.

To the foregoing objects, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consistsv of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications maybe resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawings, lll designates the holder comprising a body or support consisting of an elongated rectangular flat plate or strip such as plastic, synthetic resin, Lucite, phenol condensation products, metal or other suitable material having convexly formed, molded, curled or turned ends I I and I2 extending in the same direction at one side. The end II is preferably formed on a larger radius or curve than the end I2 so that the end II is higher or deeper than the end I2 and the holder tapered toward the latter so that a tapered hollow space Illa is provided between the portions II and I2 and within the flat plate Il). The convex ends II and I2 terminate in transverse end edges I3 and I4, the latter of which may be bevelled outwardh7 as shown. The side edges of the flat central portion of the plate may be formed with inturned flanges I5 preferably concaved at the outside and set in planes within the parallel longitudinal side edges or margins of the plate to form hand grips to facilitate holding the device in the hand in straddling position under the palm and between the ngers.

An elongated endless cloth web or band I6 is mounted on and around the body or support to lie or be held firmly against the outer face of the at bottom I and curled ends Il and l2 so that one lap or stretch of the band is rmly held against the at plate at the bottom and curled ends and" extends between the curled ends at the top to also provide a soft flexible upper lap or stretch Il both of which are used for buiiing or polishing to give better results depending uponA the particular part of the shoe or shape of the surface being polished.

The cloth web or band i6 may consist of a section of tubular web or a strip jpined at itsends and is preferably Wider than the body or plate l0 and ends l I and l2, the excessive width being such as one-half inch with a one-fourth inch overlap or projection i3 on each side edge serving to prevent the band from slipping from the holder or plate and providing an additional daubing surface for conveniently applying the polish to recesses or irregular surfaces such as the crotch formed by the joining of the upper and the Welt or sole and the projection of the latter.

The tapered hollow space lila within the holder formed by the plate as described, is designed to accommodate a compressible tube a9 designed to contain the polish and having a shoulder 20 at its neck portion A2l which is threaded to enter a threaded hole 2 through the center of the end l I, preferably with an interposed rubber or other packing washer 23 to prevent leakage and give rm attachment for the tube. The outlet end of the neck 2l is flush with the outer face of the .end Il s o as to force the polish into the cloth of the band l or through a hole provided therein to facilitate application thereof to the surface to be polished at thispoint as well as along the'flanged or curled edges ld. After the polish has been applied or-when the device is not in use', the neck of the tube may be closed by a plug or closure shown in the form ofV a screw eye 24.

The daubing and polishing device may be kept within a bag or other container 25 shown tapered in the same manner and having overlapping edges 26 at the mouth thereof adapted to be held together by a suitable fastener such as snap fasteners 21.

What I claim is:
