1949' J- B.. WOODBURY HQLDER FOR COOKING WIENERS AND THE LIKE Filed Feb. 18, 1946 Izweniom: Jam-.8. vfirodiuafy, Z9
Patented Aug. 16, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER FOR COOKING WIENERS AND THE LIKE Application February 18, 1946, Serial No. 648,405
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a holder designed primarily to :be used when roasting frankfurts or similar articles of food over an open fire, as a campfire or at a fireplace; and has for its main object to provide a simple, inexpensive and easy to use device for securely holding the food article over the flames until it is roasted. Other objects and advantages will appear as this description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawing wherein I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention:
Figure 1 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 2 is a side view, and
Figure 3 is an end view.
My device is preferably made from a single strand of wire which is doubled upon itself to provide two arms which are substantially coextensive in length. By doubling the arms upon themselves there is provided at one end of the device a closed loop constituting a handle portion l0. Beyond said handle portion, the arms are twisted together for a substantial distance to provide a relatively stifi body portion l I Beyond the body portion ll, one arm of the wire is extended forwardly at as M in substantially the axis of the device and terminates in an annular article encircling loop or ring l5 of substantial diameter and disposed at substantially right angles to the plane of the body portion ll,
The other arm of the wire is bent 'as at 12 at substantially right angles to the plane of the body portion II and is then bent again to provide a horizontally extending spike portion [3. Spike portion I3 is disposed in a plane substantially parallel to but spaced from the forwardly extending portion 14 of the first-named arm and extends towards the article encircling portion ill but terminates a substantial distance therefrom. Preferably spike portion IB is centered with respect to the article encircling portion I5.
In use, a frankfurt or other article is inserted axially through the article encircling portion l5 until the inner end of the frankfurt is pierced to a substantial distance by the spike portion, thus securing the frankfurt firmly in place. When the device is held over the flames, the article encircling portion serves as a lateral guard to prevent the frankfurt from accidentally falling oil the spike into the fire.
While I have shown and described my invention as especially designed for holding frankfurts, it will be understood that it is not limited to such use but may be used for any other purposes where a simple, inexpensive and reliable article holder is required.
Various minor modifications in construction and design may obviously be resorted to within the limits of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A holder for a frankfurt or the like, consisting of a continuous length of wire twisted upon itself to provide a body member of substantial length terminating at one end in a closed handle loop and at its opposite end in an article centering and holding portion, said article centering and holding portion being comprised by a portion of the untwisted :wire which extends forwardly in substantially the longitudinal axis of said body member and terminates in a closed article-encircling loop disposed at substantially right angles to said body member and spaced therefrom, and by another portion of the untwisted wire which is bent at right angles to the body member and then extends forwardly in spaced, generally parallel relation to said first-named portion of untwisted wire and terminates in a sharpened point spaced from but centered with respect to said articleencircling loop.
JOHN B. WOODBURY.
