One object of the'invention is to assure secure assembly of'a brake head body part and a separatedly formed supportingpart to each other and to the ends of a beam on which the parts are mounted.
Another object'is to form the support engaging. part of one metal or alloy and :to form the brake head body part of another metal or alloy;

The brake head structure shown in Figures 5 and 6 is similar to that described in Figures l-3 except that apertures 45 are provided in legs 46 of supporting part 41 instead of lugs, as shown in Figures 1-3. Brake head body 48 is cast about legs 46 and through aperturesl45 and surround the legs.
In Figure 7, brake head body 5| is formed separately from supporting part 52. Part 52 has spaced legs 53 extending inwardly of the brake head and receiving between them the ends ofthe compression member 55 and tension member 54. A vertically disposed rivet 56 extends through body 5|, through legs 53 of part 52, and through the ends of the tension and compression members. A horizontally disposed rivet 51 extends through body 5| and through the ends of the compression and tension members and between legs 53 of part 52. Rivets 5B and 51 maintain assembly of the beam. The ends of leg 53 of part 52 may be welded at W to the compression member instead of using vertical rivet 56' to secure part 52 to the beam members.
Figure 8 shows a brake head similar to that shown in Figures 1-3 except that the brake head is symmetrical about the axis y-y and may be applied interchangeably to either end of the beam. This is accomplished by positioning legs (ii of part 62 and recess 63 of body 64 symmetrically about axis y--y and with part 62 positioned parallel to the strut. The brake heads shown in Figures 4, 5, 6 and 7 show the parts at an angle to the strut so that the pull on the beam is parallel with the rail but these structures also may be made symmetrical about their central axes similarly to the brake head shown in Figure 8.
The details of the brake head and other parts of the beam may be varied otherwise than as described without departing from the spirit of the invention and the exclusive use of those modifications coming within the scope of the claims is contemplated.
What is claimed is: I
1. In a railway brake head, a body part arranged to receive the ends of beam compression and tension members and arranged .to mount a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body part and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, one of said parts being preformed independently of the other part and said other part being cast on a portion of said preformed part. i
2. In a brake head for afltruss type railway brake beam, a body arranged to mount a wheel engaging device and havinga pocket adapted to receive the adjacent ends of beamjcompression and tension members, and a, part extending outwardly of said body and being arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part being formed independently of said body and said body being cast about a portion of said part,
3. Brake head structure as described in claim 2 is which the part portion and body having integral elements interengaging each other to secure the part and body together.
4. In a brake head for a railway brake beam, a body arranged to mount a brake shoe and having a pocket adapted to receive the ends of beam compression andtension members, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part being formed of one material '4 and said body being of difierent material cast about said part.
5. In a railway brake head, a body arranged to receive the ends of beam compression and tension members and arranged for mounting a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having spaced legs and said body being cast about said legs.
6. Structure as described in claim 5 in which the legs of the supporting part and adjacent portions of the body have respectively integral elements interlocking with each other to secure the body and part together.
7. In a railway brake head, a body arranged to receive the ends of beam compression and tension members and arranged for mounting a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having spaced legs extending within said body, and said body being cast about said legs and surrounding each of said legs.
8. In a railway brake head, a body arranged to receive the ends of beam compression and tension members. and arranged for mounting a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having legs extending inwardly of the body and provided with transversely extending. lugs, and said brake head being cast about said legs and interlocking with said lugs.
9. In a railway brake head, a body provided with a pocket for receivingthe ends of beam com pression and tension members and arranged for mounting a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent bracket, said part having a leg, said body being cast about said leg and said leg forming at least one wall of said body pocket.
10. In a railway brake head, a body arranged to mount a brake shoe, and a supporting part extending outwardly from the body to engage a support bracket, said part having legs spaced to form opposite walls of a pocket for receiving the ends of beam compression and tension members, the body being cast about said legs and forming other walls of said pocket.
11. In a railway brakehead, a body arranged to receive the ends of a beam compression and tension member and having means for mounting a brake shoe, and a supporting part at the end.
of the beam extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage a support bracket on the truck frame, said part having legs provided with apertures, and said body being cast about said legs and into said apertures.
12. In a railway truss type brake beam, a channel shaped compression member and a tension member with their end portions converging, the end portions of said tension member being received between the flanges of said channel shaped compression member, elements on the tension member engaging the ends of the compression member, structure mounted on said end portions at each end of the beam for maintaining engagement of said members and including a brake shoe mounting body, a supporting part extending out wardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having legs spaced apart the'depth of said channel member and receiving said channel member therebetween 75 and extending within said body, and means maintaining assembly of said structure to said members.
13. In a railway truss type brake beam, a compression member and a tension member with their end portions converging and interengaging and a brake head mounted on said end portions, said head comprising a body part arranged to mount a brake shoe and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body part and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, one of said parts being pre-iormed independently of the other part and said other part being cast about a portion of said pre-formed part, and a securing device maintaining assembly of at least one of said parts to at least one of said members.

In a railway truss type brake beam, a compression member and a tension member with their end portions converging, elements on the tension member engaging the ends of the compression member, structure mounted on said end portions at each end of the beam for maintaining engagement of said tension member element with said compression member and including a brake shoe mounting body and a supporting part extending outwardly of said body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having spaced legs extending within said body and receiving between them and engaging said end portions, and means maintaining said structure assembled with said members.
15. In a railway truss type brake beam, a compression member and a tension member with their end portions converging, elements on the tension member engaging the ends of the compression member, structure mounted on said end portions at each end of the beam for maintaining engagement of said tension member element with said compression member and including a brake shoe mounting body and a supporting part extending outwardly ofsaid body and arranged to engage an adjacent support bracket, said part having spaced legs extending within said body and receiving between them said end portions, and a vertically disposed rivet extending through said body, legs and members and a horizontally disposed rivet extending through said body and said members and between said legs for maintaining assembly of said structure to said members.
