PAINT LINER MACHINE Filed May 15, 1946 v 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR.
ATID RNEYB Patented July 19, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Claims.
The invention relates to a marker machine and more especially to a, surface marker apparatus.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein a surface can be marked with a line or stripe, either continuously or intermittently, through the use of a wheeled vehicle or carriage, the apparatus being of novel construction, and is unique in the assembly of its parts, and is such that straight, curved or spiral markings can be had upon a surface.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein the straight line marking is aided by a guide tape, which is wound upon a reel upon the carriage or wheeled vehicle and directs the straight line course of the latter during the marking operation.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, wherein the marking paint is manually controlled in the feed thereof, and it can be evenly distributed over the marker brush.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily handled, self guided in making straight lines, possessed of few parts, thus economical in repairs and replacements, compact and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of the apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a top plan view;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure {3 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the flow con-' trol valve.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the apparatus constituting the present invention, comprises a wheeled vehicle or carriage, which involves a substantially triangular shaped main chassis frame Ill, the wider end thereof is fore and the narrower end aft of the vehicle or carriage. Above the frame II! is a second substantially rectangular shaped frame I I, which is supported forwardly thereof by uprights I2 rising from the main frame I0, while rearwardly such frame I I is joined with a vertical rack I3, in which is located a Vertically adjustable liquid paint receptacle or hopper I4, the front of the frame III being fitted with swiveled front caster wheels I5,
and rearwardly by a single rear caster wheel I6. This rear caster wheel I6 is carried on a vertically swingable rocker I'I, having central horizontal bearing at I8 beneath the frame I0, and regulated by a set screw I9 fitting the latter, so that the aft portion of such frame I0 can be raised or lowered. The rocker I1 is manually regulated by a hand lever 20 having linkage at 2| therewith. The lever 20 is pivoted at 22 upon a stand post 23. This post 23 rises from the framelll above the frame I i. a
The frame II is disposed at the longitudinal central axis of the frame I0, and the post 23 is unitary with both, having near its upper end a laterally extended hollow handle bar 24, through which is trained an electric current supply line 25, to an electric power motor 26 supported on the frame I0, the line being equipped with an on and off electric switch 21 manually operated.
Fore of the post 23 is a reel 28, adapted for the winding thereon and unwinding therefrom of a guide tape 29, which at its outermost end' is equipped with an anchoring member, such for example as a suction cup 30, that it may be attached at a selected point on a surface to bemarked, a portion of this surface being indicated generally at 3|. The reel 28 rotates on a horizontal axis 32 within the frame II above the frame Ill.
The tape 29 is trained over a peripherally grooved guide roller 33, which is horizontallyjournaled at 34 in a carrier fork 35 therefor,-
which is located aft of the location of the front; wheels and midway there between.
The motor 26 drives the reel 28 through a.
