Still further, it is proposed to characterize the knee cap by a flexible -c-shaped leg band for en-' gaging upon the leg above the knee and which has its end provided with felt covers for preventing injury to the leg during engagement of the clip upon the knee or removal therefrom.

Still another object of the invention proposes the provision of a needle socket mounted on and projecting laterally from the band and in which the needle is removably mounted to be interchanged with other needles when necessary.

Another object of the invention proposes slidably and turnably mounting the needle socket upon the flexible band in such a manner that when it is positioned thereon it may be adjusted as desired.

It is a further object of this invention to construct a knee clip for holding cloth articles which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the knee cap constructed in accordance with this invention engaged upon one knee.

Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the knee clip.

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but illustrating a modified form of the invention.

Fig. 4 is a partial plan view looking in the direction of the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

The knee clip for holding cloth articles, in accordance with this invention comprises a C-shaped leg band In which is adapted to be en- 4 Claims. (Cl. 223-110 gaged upon the leg just above the knee as illustrated in Fig. 1. This -c-shaped leg band is constructed of flexible material, preferably spring steel, and has its ends provided with felt covers i I. These felt covers I I protect the knee against injury while engaging the leg band in position upon the leg or whileremoving it therefrom.

The needle socket I2 is mounted on and projects laterally from the c-shaped leg band III. This needle socket is welded, brazed or in any other similar manner securely attached to the leg band l0.

The free end of the needle socket I2 is provided with a socket opening I3 into which the blunt eye end of a needle I4 is adapted to be extended. A screw I5 is threadedly engaged through the side wall of the needle socket l2 and is adapted to bear against the needle l4 releasably securing it in adjusted position within the socket opening |3.-

The operation of this form of the invention is as follows: j

. The band In is engaged in position upon the knee as shown in Fig, 1. A piece of cloth to be worked upon, has one end engaged upon the needle l4 while grasped at its other end by one hand. The cloth material is then pulled taut between the needle l4 and the grasping hand, leaving the other hand free to manipulate the needle to sew the taut cloth material.

In the modification of the invention disclosed in Figs. 3 and 4 the needle socket I2 is constructed of separate sections comprising a base section 20 and a socket section 2 I. The base section 2!! is fixedly attached to a band 22 which is slidably engaged upon the band I 0. The slide 22 is provided with a clamp screw 23 adapted to tighten against the band ill for holding the slide 22 in desired adjusted positions upon the band l0.

Means is also provided for holding the socket portion 2! in desired turned positions upon the base section 20. To accomplish this the contacting faces of the sections 20 and 2| are provided with serrations 24. A clamp screw 25 passes turnably through the section 2| and threadedly engages a complementary socket opening formed in the base section 20 for urging the sections 20 and 2| together to engage the serrations 24 to securely lock the section 2| in a desired turned position upon the section 20.

The manner for using this form of the invention is similar to that of the prior form except that the position of the needle l4 with relation to the band In may be adjusted to a desired posi- 3 tion to most conveniently hold the material upon which it is desired to work.

In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in eachof the several views.

While Lhaveillustrated anddescribed the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what" I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A knee clip for holding cloth articles, comprising a flexible (J-shaped leg band for engaging upon the leg above the knee, a slide for'rnoving along the length of saidrband'means for holding said slide. in fixed positions, a boss projecting from said: slide, aneedie socket turnably mounted on said boss and projecting-laterally of. said band, means for holding said: sooket in selected turned positions; anda needle mounted in said socket;

2. A knee clip-for holding cloth. articles, comprising aflexible c -shapedl leg band forengagirig upon the leg-above the knee; a slide for. moving along the length of said? band, means for holding said slide fixed positions; a boss projecting from said slide, a needle socket turnably mounted on: said: boss: and projecting laterally of said; band, means for: holding said socket in selected turned positions, and a needle mounted in said socket, said. means for holding said slide, comprising a: clamps'crew threadedly engaged through: said slide andiabntting' said band.

A knee clip for holding cloth articles, comprising a flexible C-shaped leg band for engaging upon" the leg above the knee, a slide for moving along the length of said band, means for holding said slide in fixed positions, a boss projecting from said slide, a needle socket turnably mount- 7 ed on said boss and projecting laterally of said hand, means for holding said socket in selected turned positions, and a needle mounted in said socket, said needle socket being formed of separate sections, comprlsirig a base section fixedly monntedonzsaid slide andna needle section, and means for adjustably' connecting said section,- said latter means comprising serrations between theadjaeent faces of said sections and a clamp screw freely passing through one of said sections and engaging a threaded opening in the" other: of said sectionsfor clampin said sections together to mairrtain-said'serrations engaged;
