May 17, 1949. o. GALTER ILLUMINATED BATTLE FOR BABIES CRIBS Filed Nov. 18, 1947 57%2720? Uscarf en Patented May 17, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ILLUMINATED BATTLE FOR BABIES CRIBS Oscar Galter, Chicago, 111.
Application November 18, 1947, Serial No. 786,675
1 Claim.
My invention relates to a device attached to a babys crib and adapted to act as a lamp for the crib, said device adapted to be removed, and used as a rattle.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide a rattle containing an electric light bulb and battery. My device is removably attached to a babys crib, so that when light is desired, the rattle may be illuminated to provide a soft glow, which will not irritate the babys eyes or cause fright. The device is removable from its attachment to the crib, and may be rattled for the entertainment of the baby. It is safe for the baby to use and is durable and lasting.
My invention also contemplates such other objects, advantages, and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawings, a preferred form of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. l is an elevational View of the preferred embodiment of my device; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detailed View showing my device in position on a crib.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a pair of hollow translucent head portions and l l adapted to be removably attached together by screw threads or other suitable means. The bottom head portion H has a screw threaded opening 12 adapted to be removably engaged by the screw threaded end l3 of handle 14.
Said handle it is hollow and adjacent end [3, has a socket 24, within which is mounted electric light bulb 15, which extends slightly forwardly into head portion l I. An electric storage battery I6 is removably housed in handle M for engagement at its forward end with light bulb l5.
The open rear end I! of handle I4 is removably closed by screw threaded cap l8. Cap l8 has a contact member l9 which when the cap is screwed to move forwardly to a certain point is adapted to contact the battery 16 to close the circuit and illuminate bulb 15. When cap 18 is screwed to move backwardly, contact 19 moves away from battery Hi to extinguish the light in bulb l5. Cap l8 may be removed from handle l4 to permit removal and insertion of battery IS.
A bail 20 is attached to handle [4 adjacent end H for removably attaching my device to a crib 23 to act as a crib lamp.
A domed or raised guard or shield 2| is attached to or formed within head portion ll adjacent opening l2, and surrounds the top and sides of electric bulb IS. A plurality of small loose rattle members 22 are housed within head portions I0 and I l to the exterior of shield 2|. When my device is shaken the rattle members strike against the head portions l0 and II and produce a series of noises to attract the babys attention and provide the baby with entertainment. The shield 21 protects the electric light bulb from being struck or broken by the rattle members 22. Having thus described my invention, I claim: A combination babys crib lamp and rattle comprising a. lower hollow translucent head portion having screw threads at its open upper portion, an upper hollow translucent head portion having screw threads at its open lower portion removably engaging the screw threads of said lower head portion, said lower head portion having a. flanged open portion with screw threads at its lower end, a, combination hollow handle and batteryholder having screw threads at its upper end removably engaging the screw threads in the flanged open portion of said lower head portion, a socket attached to said handle adjacent its upper end, an electric light bulb removably mounted in said socket and extending within said lower head portion, the lower end of said handle being open and having screw threads, a cap having screw threads removably engaging the screw threads at the lower end of said handle for closing the lower open end of said handle, a contact member attached to said cap and adapted when the cap is screwed forwardly on said handle to contact said battery and illuminate said bulb, said contact member adapted when said cap is screwed rearwardly to move away from contact with said battery and extinguish said bulb, a plurality of rattle members loosely housed in said head portions, a guard attached to the lower head portion and surrounding the top and sides of said electric light bulb to protect it from breakage by said rattle members, and an attaching means on said handle for removably attaching the device to a crib to act as a lamp.
