Application March 1, 1948, Serial No. 12,448
6 Claims. l
This invention relates to containers for the storage of currency and other valuables, and has more particular reference to such a. container adapted for use in business establishments or homes and into which currency or other valuables may be placed for safe keeping.
According to present practice, currency of all kinds and denominations are placed together within single-compartment containers so that the different kinds and denominations of currency must be removed from the containers and separated at the beginning of each business day. Obviously, this practice is inconvenient and timeconsuming.
The primary object of the present invention, therefore, is to provide an improved currency container having a plurality of compartments so that currency of each kind and denomination may be placed in a different compartment in order to eliminate the necessity of separating the currency at the beginning of each business day.
A further object is to provide a container of the above kind which is easy to handle and use, and which is so constructed that convenient access may be had to the several compartments for ready insertion of the currency therein and removal of the same therefrom.
Another object is to provide a simple and durable container of the above kind which may be cheaply and readily manufactured.
The exact nature of the present invention will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a currency container embodying the present invention,
Figure 2 is a central vertical section on the line 2--2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
The present container comprises a plurality of similar unitary or independent cup-like sections 5, each having a side opening 6 in the upper front portion thereof through which the currency may be inserted and removed, and a unitary open-top cup-like uppermost section 1 provided with a handle 8.
The sections 5 and l are of the same size and shape in horizontal section and are disposed and permanently connected together in superimposed relation, so that the bottom of each section eX- cept the lowermost one closes the top of the section directly beneath the same. While the sections are shown as cylindrical, they may be made in other shapes. The opening 6 of each section (Cl. 20G-0.80)
5 extends from the top of said section to a point above the bottom thereof so as to leave a pocket at the bottom of said section in which the currency will be eectively retained.
As shown, rigid straps S are disposed in uniformly spaced relation about and extended from top to bottom of the container, said straps being secured to all of the sections by welding or the like to connect them together.
The handle 8 may consist of a strap disposed diametrically of the uppermost section at the top of the same. As shown, said strap is hinged at one end to one side of section l' as at it for vertical swinging movement, and is releasably latched at its other end to the opposite of said section by providing said other end with an angular depending extension ii adapted to snap into a slot I2 provided in the latter side. Downwardly converging bars i3 are secured on the section 'l at opposite sides of the slot l2 to guide the extension Il into the latter. By unlatching the handle or strap 8, it may be swung upwardly out of the Way so as to not interfere With ready insertion of the hand in removing currency from the section l. When the handle ii is latched down in its operative position, it may be grasped for use in handling the container.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction, manner of use, and advantages of the present invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art. Modications and changes in details of construction are contemplated, such as fairly fall within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A multiple compartment valuables container of the character described, comprising a plurality of similar unitary cup-like sections, each having a side opening in the upper front portion thereof through which the currency may be inserted and removed, and a unitary open top cup-like uppermost section provided with a handle, all of said sections being of the same size and shape in horizontal section and being disposed and permanently connected together in superimposed relation so that the bottom of each section except the lowermost one closes the top of the section directly beneath the same,
2. The construction dei-ined in claim 1, in combination with rigid straps disposed in uniformly spaced relation about and extended from top to bottom of the container, said straps being secured to all of the sections to connect them together.
3. The construction dened in claim 1, wherein the handle consists of a strap disposed diametrically of the uppermost section at the top of the same.
4. The construction dened in claim 1, Wherein the handle consists of a strap disposed diametrically of the uppermost section at the top of the same, said strap being hinged at one end to one sideof said uppermost-section for vertical swingingmovement and-being releasably latched at its other end to the opposite side of said section.
5. The construction dened in claim 1, wherein the handle consists of a strap disposed diametrically of the uppermost section at the top of the same, said strap being hinged at oneend-to one side of said uppermost section for Vertical swinging movement and being releasably latched at its other end to the opposite side of said section, the means for latching said strap comprising an angular depending extension on said other end .of-etthefsamesaid uppermost section having a slot 1into'. ,whi :h the .extension may snap.
4 6. The construction dened in claim 1, wherein the handle consists of a strap disposed diametrically of the uppermost section at the top of the same, said strap being hinged at one end to one side of said uppermost section for Vertical swinging movement and being releasably latched at its other end to the opposite side of said section, the means for latching said strap comprising an angular depending extension on said other end of the same, said uppermost section having a slot into which the extension may snap, and downwardly diverging bars secured on said uppermost section at opposite sides of said slot to guide the extension into the latter.
