Description
May 17, 1949. F. E. GREEN G AMEBOARD AND APPARATUS Filed Nov. 24, 1947' v :inventor /c/c E. @reen Freder y Patented May 17, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GAMEl BOARD AND APPARATUS Frederick E. Green, Spokane, Wash.
Application November 24, 1947, Serial No. 787,662
1 Claim.
My present invention relates .to an improved game board and apparatus =of the type herein shown as designed for simulated golf, the various holes being laid off pictorially and formed with cups. The game is played by locating the rel-atively small ball at the tee position and the player by exhaling through a straw or similar tubular guide and properly directing the straw, may project the ball from the tee toward the green and .the cup. Suitable hazards and obstacles are supplied to render more diilicult the play, and the score is kept by counting the number of strokes required to move the ball from a tee to a cup.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical eme bodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes `and alterations may be made in Ithe exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim, to include foot-ball, basket-ball, baseball or other games or sports which maybe played in a similar manner.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the game board.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 3 is -a bracketed view of the straw and ball.
Referring now Ito the drawings wherein I have illustrated the present preferred embodiment of my invention, I employ a game board 2 of plane material having side Wall 4. A layer of suitable material Ii is laid upon the board and formed with pictorial illustrations of tees 8, and fairways I leading to greens I2.
'Ihe tees are provided with a recess or depressi-on I4 to receive the ball, and the greens have a recess or cup I6 to receive and retain the played ball.
Various other hazards or obstacles may be employed off the fairways and consisting of irregularly shaped recesses I8 having beveled walls 20, some having the bottoms covered with sand paper 22, and others with metal foil 24 to simulate sand traps and water hazards, respectively.
As further hazards I employ the objects 216 A ball 32 of suitable size, shape and material is located in th-e tee depression I4 and the player using the hollow straw tube 34 blows through the tube against the ball to force the ball out `of the depression and toward the green at the end of that fairway.
With the playing surface at the ball if properly projected may run true and fall into the cup I6. However should it be not projected true, it will roll off the fairway and into a hazard from which it must be further projected.
A Ibeveled trough 36 around the periphery of the playing surface will retain .a ball rolling therein and may be determined as out bf bounds.
Obviously the game may be employed to simulate other pastimes such as basketball, football, ltennis Iand the like yand such games would normally require two or more players Whereas the simulated golf game may be played by one person.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A game board for simulated golf games cornprising a base board, an upper board layer superimposed upon the base board and having irregularly shaped openings therein, layers of sandcoated material under some openings and layers of smooth metal foil under other openings, the walls of said opening being beveled, and said upper board having shallow ball-receiving -depressions at the tees, and deeper ball-receiving depressions Vat the greens, and an enclosing ywall about the game board.
