' GAME APPARATUS Filed Jan. 23, 1948 Patented May 17, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GAME APPARATUS Frederick L. Geary, Springfield, Mass. Application January 23, 1948, Serial No. 3,935 3 Claims. (Cl. 273-88) This invention relates to improvements in a game apparatus.

The principal object of the invention is directed to the provision of a game apparatus which is adapted to be played according to the rules of various games which may be devised and the novel features thereof include a board onto which a magnetized element or elements are projected and which may or not bring up against other members some of which are movable so as to be attracted thereby.

Players may launch their respective playing piece or pieces and other players may manipulate the elements into which the playing pieces are attracted.

The form of the invention being shown illustrates the game apparatus as adapted for playing baseball but as will appear the apparatus may be used for numerous and various other games as well and rules may be devised for any desired purposes.

With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a game apparatus embodying the novel features of the invention;

Fig. 2 is an elevational sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the playing pieces of the device of my invention.

Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.

A game board 2 is shown which may include a frame 4 and a support 6. Said support and frame will be made from non-metallic material.

A launcher 8 is pivoted for swinging movements in horizontal planes on a pivot I and it has a forwardly inclined face 12. The launcher will be made from non-metallic material.

One or more playing pieces such as l4 in Fig. 3 are provided which in the form of the invention being described are in the form of cylinders and are made from magnetized material.

Playing pieces are placed on the launcher by the players who may turn the launcher in any direction desired and are released so that they are projected onto the support and being cylindrical they roll on the support.

The frame has an inclined bottom edge indicated by It so that when the game board is placed on a horizontal surface the support will be tilted forwardly and downwardly from the launcher to facilitate rolling of the playin pieces therealong. Playing pieces of other shapes may be employed as desired.

A carrier 20 is provided which is pivoted beneath the support at 22 and it has a manually engageable outer end 24, which extends through a slot 26 in the frame 4. The support is provided with a plurality of slots 28 and members 30 are fixed to the carrier and extend through the slots 28.

A carrier 32 is pivoted at 34 to a transverse member 36 and it has a manually engageable outer end 38 which extends through a slot 40 in the frame. Members 42 and 44 are fixed to the carrier 32 and extend upwardly through slots 46 and 48.

The carriers are swingable in opposite directions to move the projections 30, 42 and 44 so that the relationship of the projections may be varied as may be desired.

The projections 30, 42 and 44 will be made from such material as will cause the magnetized playing piece l4 to adhere thereto and there may be other elements indicated by 50 which are fixed to the support which will also be of such material as will cause the playing piece and pieces to adhere thereto.

In the form of the invention shown, the game is arranged for the game of baseball and for that purpose a baseball diamond is indicated on the support by 52. As stated, the game may be employed. for playing any other game.

In the case of baseball, rules may be devised so that a player of the game will launch one or more playing pieces and opponents may manipulate the carriers and when a playing piece is attracted to some one of the elements 30, 42, 44 and 50 the rules adopted may provide for disadvantages or advantages all as may be desired.

There may, of course, be a various number of carriers, projections, and slots, all as may be desired according to the use for which the game board is to be employed and the board together with the rules may be such as to develop skill and at the same time provide education as well as entertainment.

It will be understood the members 30, 42 and 44 may be magnetized instead of the playing piece I4 so as to accomplish a similar result.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential char- 3 acteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to, be embraced therein.

What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A game apparatus comprising in combina tion, a slotted game board, a rollable magnetized playing piece, a launcher having a forward-1y inclined face for launching said playing piece onto.

said game board, a plurality of magnetized projections extending from beneath said game boardthrough the slots in said-game board, all adapted and arranged whereby said playing piece may be attracted to one of said magnetized projections upon and after launching; from said launcher.

2. A game apparatus. comprising in combination, a slotted game board; a. rollable magnetized play ng Piece. for rolling over said game board, a non-metallic launcher having an inclined face for launching said playing piece. onto said game board, and a. plurality of movable magnetized projections. extending upwardly through the slots in said game board and above said game board with which said playing piece may magnetically contact.

3. A game apparatus comprising in combination, a slotted game board, a rollable magnetized playing piece for rolling over said game board, a non-metallic launcher having an inclined face for launching said playing piece onto said game board, a plurality of separate carriers beneath said game board and mounted on said game board for independent swinging movements, and a plurality of movable magnetized projections extending; upwardly from said carriers and through and above the slots in said game board with which said playing piece may magnetically contact.
