1 Claim.

The present invention relates to carousels and is more particularly concerned with one operated by a motor either as a toy or an amusement vehicle.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which will provide a simple but attractive toy for small children.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which by enlargement of construction can be used in amusement parks for the enjoyment of older children and adults.

Another object is to provide a device of the character referred to wherein the carriages are maintained in substantially perpendicular position on a circular course without fastening them to a rotating platform.

With the foregoing and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

Like numerals are used in the description and drawings to designate the same parts of construction.

The carousel assembly is mounted to operate on a stationary platform I, with a centered, annular opening 2 for a flush circular base 3 in which is mounted a revolvable, perpendicular mast 4 constructed preferably in telescopic tubular sections so it can be extended longitudinally as desired. This mast is designed to be rotated by a motor 5 and bevel gears 6 and is journaled on ball or roller bearings as at 1.

Radial booms 8 preferably of tubular steel are fastened to the mast 4 by split collars and bolts at a suitable elevation above the platform of the carousel or toy and the number of booms may be as desired. Angularly disposed suspension rods 9 are secured at one end to the top of the mast split collars and at the other or lower end to the booms adjacent the elbows formed by dependin arms l0. These arms are preferably integral with the booms and bent at right angles thereto.

The bails are suitably dimensioned to be fastened longitudinally by bolts to carriages l3, here illustrated as locomotives, either toys are large enough to contain one or more amusement seekers. It will be understood that the aforesaid bolt connections may be used to render the various parts demountable. The locomotives are preferably provided with rubber-tire wheels and are designed to travel in a circle on platform I but the rigid joints aforesaid will preclude outward movement of the carriages by centrifugal force thus doin Way with a revolving platform and the necessary machinery therefor.

Havin thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A toy carousel, comprising a low fiat stationary platform, a central vertical upstanding rotatable mast mounted upon the platform, motor means to rotate the mast, horizontal radial booms having their inner ends secured to the mast for rotation with it, and including outer integral depending vertical extensions having flattened lower ends provided with horizontally spaced' apertures, the booms being disposed a substantial distance above the platform and below the top of the mast, upwardly converging diagonal braces connected with the top of the mast and with the booms near their outer ends, substantially inverted U-shaped vertical bails for connection with the lower ends of the depending extensions and having their lower ends disposed at the same elevation above the platform, the bails bein arranged at right angles to the radial booms, the bails having top horizontally spaced pairs of apertured lugs to receive the lower flattened ends of the depending extensions between them, pairs of bolts engaging within the apertures of the lugs and flattened ends for detachably rigidly securing them together, and Wheeled cars mounted upon the platform for movement in a circular path and connected at their tops and near their front and rear ends with the lower ends of the bails.
