Definitions

  • This invention relates to the production of rayon yarn having denier variations and is more particularly concerned with the production of rayon yarn having zones of low denier occurring at regular intervals along its length.
  • Figure l is a diagrammatic view in side elevation of a single spinning position equipped with apparatus constructed in accordance with the present invention for producing regularly occurring denier variations in the yarn;
  • Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the apparatus of Figure 1;
  • Figure 3 is a detailed View showing one position of a cam that is employed in imparting denier variations to the yarn.
  • Figure 4 is another view of the cam of Figure 3 in a diierent position.
  • the yarn issuing from a spinnerette IIJ is led upwardly through a thread guide Il, in tangential contact with a pair of closely spaced rollers I2 and I3 arranged in vertical alignment ⁇ over the roller I3, and under an adjacent laterally spaced roller I4 from which the yarn is led to a draw off surface I5 of a stepped godet I6 which includes also a larger draw off surface I'I and a sloping guide roller I8.
  • a panel 20 is provided on which the rollers I2, I3 and I4, as well as the sheave I9, are mounted.
  • the axis of the sheave is slightly horizontally offset with respect to the yarn path between the rollers I2 and I4.
  • Accommodated in this offset and attached to the sheave I9 for rotation therewith, is a cam 2
  • roller I6 spaced from, but in the same horizontal plane as the roller I3, resultsI in imparting to the yarn a very marked change in direction in its passage between roller Ili'and the surface I5 of the stepped godet I6. rihis change in direction causes the cam produced stretch to take place between the spinnerette I0 and the roller I3 while the thread is still quite soft and deformable and prevents the stretch from being felt to any appreciable extent between the roller I3 and the godet I6. It is also desirable that the cam 2
