l Claims.
This invention relates to candle holders for cakes and confections for anniversaries, such as birthdays, weddings, and the like, wherein candles are-inserted in holding elements on cakes in which the holding elements are designed to equalize the positions of one or a plurality of candles, with the number of periods, such as years, represented by the number of candles.
Various methods have been employed for holding candles on cakes and the like, and whereas individual holders are satisfactory for small numbers, it is difficult to accommodate a sufficient number of individual holders to use enough candles to represent large numbers.
Anniversary cakes are made so that they may readily be decorated to have a pleasing appearance and, therefore, a candle holding device must also have a pleasing design wherein it will also be decorative.
To accomplish this end, the candle holding device of this invention contemplates a decorative ring with the notation Happy Birthday fancifully displayed thereon. The ring is formed with a continuous circular candle holding groove, and the notation Happy Birthday provides means for using a candle holding socket in the center of the ring so that substantially any number of candles may be used in the device with their positions equalized about the center.
A candle holding device of sufficient size to accommodate relatively large numbers of candles must necessarily be formed of elements having considerable thickness, and as weight constitutes an objectionable feature, the device of this invention is made of a plastic or other comparatively light weight material.
The major characteristic of a decorative ornamental device for anniversary cakes and the like being that the device be pleasing to the eye, it is essential that the color of the device be in harmony with the cake or icing thereof.
And to accomplish this end, the ornament is formed of plastic, which may be supplied in various colors which may be made to correspond with the color of the cake or icing.
In various candle holding devices, it has been found difficult to design a holder suitable for holding all numbers, and in particular a device that will hold one candle at one time and two at another. In order to accomplish this purpose, it is necessary to provide ornamental means for providing a candle holding socket exactly in the center and which, at the same time, will hold two candles with the candles on a line passing through the center. This invention, therefore, includes a candle holding device with the notation Happy Inc., Philadelphia, Pa.,
946, Serial No. 669,437
Birthday, the lettering of which makes it possible to provide a candle holdin socket exactly at the center without distorting the letters or parts thereof.
The purpose of this invention, therefore, is to provide an ornamental anniversary cake candle holding device which includes a continuous circular groove that provides means for holding the greatest number of candles, in combination with the notation Happy Birthday, which makes it possible to hold one candle in the center without distortion of the lettering.
To further improve the ornamental features of a candle holding device for anniversary cakes and the like, the device of this invention, which includes a ring, is provided with spaced ornamental sections adapted to improve the appearance and, at the same time, provide covers for hiding holding prongs that may extend from the underside of the device into the cake or the like.
An object of the invention is to provide an ornamental candle holder for cakes and the like, which is suitable for holding one or any number of candles in which the candles may be equalized about the center.
Another object is to provide an appropriate notation on an anniversary cake candle holder which, at the same time, makes it possible to provide a candle holding socket at the center without distortion of the lettering or elements thereof.
Another object is to design and arrange lettering of a suitable notation for candle holding ornaments so that the candles may be held in equalized or natural positions.
Another object is to provide a candle holding ornament for cakes and confections for birthdays, wedding anniversaries and the like in which the ornament may be formed of various colors, and in particular, colors that will blend with the color of the cake or confection or icing thereof.
Another object is to provide a candle holding ornament for birthday and anniversary cakes and the like which may be made relatively large to accommodate comparatively large numbers of candles, and which, at the same time, may be formed of material of relatively light weight.
A further object is to provide a candle holding ornament for cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, and the like which will accommodate one or substantially any number of candles, which is comparatively simple in construction and economical to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention embodies a comparatively flat ring with a continuous circular groove in the upper surface adapted for holding candles, prongs covered by Figure 1 is a plan View of the ornament.
Figure 2 is a detail the candl holding socket at the center of the ornament.
Figure 3 is a cross section through thering of the ornament showing the continuous candle holding groove and holding prongs.
Figure 4 is a detail illustrating a sectionof the ring showing the relative positions of the parts.
Figure 5 illustrates the ornament imbedded in the icing on? a cake withia plurality of candles therein.
Figure 6 is a similar view showing one candle usedin the center of the ornament.
Figure 7 is also a similar view showing two candles used in the ornament. on a cake or the like.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, thelornament of this invention comprises a ring I with a, continuous circular groove Zin the upper face thereof.
The under surface of the ring may be smooth ormay be provided With prongs 3 which extend downward from grooved sections 4 at spaced intervals around the ring, providing ornamental sections covering the prongs or pins.
The cross sectional shape of the ring may be of -the design illustrated in Figure 3 or may be mayabe used for the firstv the notation which. extends socket 6 is formed at the intersection ticalmember l of theletter P and the cross member 8 of the letter T, which makes it possible to locate the socket exactly on thecenter of t'hezring i. It is not desired to limit the invention'to the notation Happy Birthday; however, it is essential that other notations that usedwhave letters, characters or the like that make it possible to icing'and the like, that any material, be: used. 1
