1 Claim.
This invention relates to a game and apparatus of the chance controlled type, and it consists in the constructions, arrangements and combinations herein described and claimed.
It is a particular object of the invention to provide a game apparatus which is especially well suited to accommodate quite a number of players, making the device adaptable to use in churches, fraternal orders and the like, for the purpose of raising funds for needy causes.
It is a still further object of the invention toprovide a game apparatus wherein the players compete with one another in the winning of stakes put up by each player, and in which the backer of the same (church, fraternal organization and the like) need not advance any stakes, yet be eligible to collect within a predetermined ratio of chance, thus differing from well known commercial games of chance.
More specifically, it is an object of the invention to provide a game board or boards, the face of which bears numbered spaces or squares upon which the stakes of respective players are placed, until the winner of such stakes is determined according to the rules of the game.
A further object of the invention is to provide a dual actuating indicator device, of a rotary type, for determining the winner of the stakes.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a game and apparatus so constructed and arranged as to provide a major prize, thewinning of which shall be determined by certain 10- cations of a dual actuated indicator device.
It is also an important object of the invention to provide a game and apparatus wherein any number of players, in groups of eight or more, or in multiple groups of eight or more, may engage in the play, while a single dual indicator unit is employed in determining the winner of each group simultaneously.
Additional objects, advantages and features of invention will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a plan view of a game board and apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section through a portion of the game board, illustrating the construction of the dual indicator device.
There is illustrated a game board I substantially rectangular as seen in plan View, inwardly of longitudinal edges of the board being marked off into individual squares ll, each square upon respective sides being consecutively numbered from 1 to 8. The squares are bisected by a medial line I I2, thus dividing each square into two playing surfaces, that is to say, two persons may play upon the same number, one above the line and one below said line. Each square is further provided with a numeral l3 for identification purposes of paired players. For instance, if two players played the number 8, one player would have the combination 81 and the other would have 8-9.
In the present instance, I have preferred to illustrate the chance controlled apparatus as embodied in the game board, but obviously, the device may be constructed as a single unit so that it may be hung upon a wall surface in which event a plurality of game boards would be employed so as to accommodate a great many players, as in the case of Bingo and since this game and the mode of play is well understood, a specific showing is not believed necessary for an understanding of the present game and apparatus.
The indicator consists of two spaced concentric circles l4 and I5, divided by twenty radial lines it, providing respective segments l1, three of which are blank; sixteen being numbered in paired groups from 1 to 8, and the final blank bearing the initials J. P. indicated at l8, which in the present instance, denotes a jack pot. The board is further provided with a pair of jack pot notations l9 and 20, one for the players on each side of the playing board.
At the outer terminals of the lines It a pin or peg 2| is positioned, driven or otherwise fixed in the playing board and extended at right angles thereto.
Axially of the rings I4 and IS, the board is formed with a socket '22, as shown in Figure 2, within which is disposed a sleeve 23 for rotatably mounting a spindle 24. Opposite ends of the spindle are provided with anti-friction means 25 and 26 respectively, the former being engaged upon the base of the sleeve 23 while the latter rotatably mounts a secondary indicator, presently to be described.
Upon the spindle 24 a circular disk 21 is secured and from diametrically opposite sides of the periphery of the disk respective rods 28 and 29 are secured and extended, the rods being of equal lengths but stopping short of engaging the pegs or pins 2|. The outer free end of the rod 29 has fixed thereto a flexible pointer 30 adapted to contact the pins'or pegs 2-l successively, under rotation of the disk 21. The rod 28 serves as a means for rotating the disk as well as to provide balance to the disk.
Upon the upper face of the disk 2'! two concentric spaced circles 3! and 32 are formed, being divided into respectiv segmental spaces 33, by twenty-four radial lines 34. Eight of the spaces bear numerals 1 to 8, respectively, and as shown there are two blank spaces between the numerals. As in the case of the playing board, a pin or peg 35 is positioned at the outer terminal end of each lin 34.
A rotatable indicator 36 is loosely mounted and engaged upon the anti-friction means 26, in the present instance this being accomplished by pro-- viding a hub member 31 axially bored to receive the upper end of the spindle 24, the anti-friction means seating against th upper closed end of the bore.
Rods 38 and 39 are fixed to the hub extending in diametrically opposite directions, the rod 38 functioning in the same manner as the rod 29 of the main indicator, and the rod 29 has a flexible pointer 40 adapted to successively engage thepins 35.
The indicator 36 determines the winner or winners of the jack pots l9 and 20, as will be apparent as the description proceeds, and in such games where it is desired to eliminate the jack pot feature, the indicator 36 may be readily removed from the spindle, and the single indicator 2! employed.
One operation of a game is substantially as follows: The players who are to participate take their places along the sides of the game board, each player placing his stake upon his chosen number 1 to 32, indicated by the reference character 3!. As few as eight and as many as sixteen players can engage on each side of the board, but they play in groups of eight. Each group of eight uses a stake uniform for the group. When all stakes are in place, an operator spins the disk 2'1, by means of the rod 29, the pointer 30 successively engaging the pins or pegs 2! and eventually will come to rest between a pair of the pins or pegs when the disk stops rotating. If pointer 30 comes to rest upon one of the blank spaces 11, the house wins all of the stakes of all players engaged in the game. In the event that the pointer stops upon-the space 18, bearing the notation J. P. the jack pot wins, and the stakes of all players must be placed in one or both jack pots. The players win when the pointer 10 comes to a rest upon one of the numbered spaces 11, the number of said space indicating the winner of the stakes in each group.
It should be understood that when the disk 21 is rotated, the spindle 24 will rotate, carrying th indicator 36 along with it by reason of contacting engagement between the pointer 39 and one of the pins or pegs 35. However, since the indicator 36 is freely rotatable on the spindle 24, the indicators 2'! and 33 do not rotate in unison and in fact, a variation in rotation of the spindle will cause the indicator 36 to rotate thereon so that the pointer 49 may come to rest upon any of the several segmental spaces 33. Thus, if the pointer 42 stops on a number the same as that upon which the pointer 30 has stopped, the holders of said number wins the jack pot of that group, or the sole jack pot, if only one is being used.
While I have shown and described a preferred form of the device, this is by way of illustration only, and I consider as my own all such variations in construction as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A dual spinner game indicator comprising a base support, a play indicator rotatably mounted upon said base support including a horizontally disposed bar, a flexible pointer on the outer end of said bar, said base support having play indicating indicia and spaced blank portions arranged concentrically or" the path of rotation of said bar and pointer, pegs on said base support in the path of rotation of said flexible pointer and denoting respective boundaries of said play indicating indicia, and said blank spaces, a second indicator rotatably mounted above said first indi-. cator and concentric therewith, said second indicator including a flexible pointer, said second named indicator having indicia and blank spaces complemental to the playing places of said base support and said play indicating indicia and blank spaces and said second named indicator having pegs disposed in the path of rotation of its flexible pointer to denote respective boundaries of the indicia and blank spaces.
