signor to The American Hardware Corporation, New Britain, Conn., a corporation of Connectiout Application November 17, 1945, Serial No. 629,247
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to wrenches, and has special reference to hand wrenches for shoe calks.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be conveniently used to install or remove shoe calks having either a spanner grip or a lug grip, and which is of simple and cheap construction.
The invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the wrench in its preferred form;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the wrench shown in operative engagement with a shoe calk of the spanner grip type, the shoe calk being shown in dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the wrench in operative engagement with a shoe calk of the lug grip typ and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view, taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
My improved hand wrench as illustrated in the drawings may be made of a single piece of sheet metal. As shown, the wrench is provided with a flat work-engaging head 2 which is provided with a key-hole shaped socket 4 for operatively engaging a shoe calk of the lug grip type, and protruding lugs 6 on its forward edge for operatively engaging a shoe calk of the spanner grip type. The socket 4 has its restricted portions arranged in the longitudinal center of the head 2, and the forward edge of said head is provided with a V-shaped cutaway opening 8 leading into the socket 4 to provide a clearance opening for the point of the shoe calk when the wrench is engaged with a spanner type shoe calk. The longitudinal edges of the head are inclined inwardly toward its forward edge.
The shank of the wrench has its inner end portion l arranged at right angles to the head 2, and the remaining portion I2 of the shank is inclined upwardly and rearwardly at a convenient angle from the portion I0 and is curved to provide a comfortable hand grip.
With this construction, the transversely curved shank of the wrench may be conveniently grasped 2 with the inner end portion ll! of the shank firmly gripped between the thumb and forefinger, the position of the wrench in the hand being reversed with respect to the sides thereof for the difierent type shoe calks. The head of the wrench is of proper size and shape and the shank of the wrench so formed as to provide clearance on the shoe sole, ease of application and comfortable hand grip.
As will be evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits various modifications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A hand-wrench for shoe calks of both the lug grip and spanner grip types, made from a single piece of sheet metal and provided with a. flattened head having a slot therein, the rear portion of said slot being of keyhole shape and extending lengthwise of the head and the walls of the forward portion of the slot extending outwardly and forwardly from the forward end of said keyhole shaped portion to form forwardly projecting arms, the ends of said arms being provided with REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
