1 Claim.

This invention relates to anti-glare devices.

The principal objects of the invention are directed to the provision of an anti-glare device which is adapted to be worn by the operator of a vehicle and is so constructed and arranged as to shield the left eye of the operator against the glare of the lights of an oncoming vehicle.

In this position the operator has clear vision straight ahead but to avoid the'glare of oncoming headlights the wearer merely tilts the head sideways to bring the lateral portion in line with the glare.

With the fOI'egOing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.

The anti-glare device includes in a broad way a shield 2 and a head band i.

The shield 2 is formed to have a side member 6 which is generally tapering rearwardly from the'forward side thereof. From the forward end of the side member a lateral eye portion 8 extends inwardly and at an angle relative thereto. Such angle will be in the neighborhood of ninety degrees or more.

The members 6 and B will preferably be integral and formed from pliable material such as plastic. The material will be transparent and tinted as, for instance, green so as to be capable of shutting out appreciable amounts of glare from headlights.

The channels may be secured to the member 5 by adhesive crimping or the like and may be made from thin metal.

The head band 4 preferably consists of a strip of resilient material which may be thin metal, plastic or any material adapted to yieldingly grip the head of the wearer when formed into the shape of a semi-circle as shown. The head band may be adjustable in the manner well known in the art.

One end of the band i; is pivoted to the rear end of the member 2 by any suitable means such as a rivet l' i or the like.

The device is adapted to be worn by an operator of a vehicle by placing the head band on the head. The member 2 is swung on the band so that the member 6 is disposed adjacent the left temple and the lateral member 8 is disposed forwardly of the left eye all as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.

With the device so located, the left eye is part- 1y shielded by the lateral member 8, from the glare of oncoming lights while at the same time the operator may see through the member 8 since it is transparent.

The operator, by tilting the head, may comto be shielded from glaring headlights.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.

What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

An anti-glare device adapted for shielding one eye only of the wearer comprising in combination, a headband made from an elongated strip of a resilient material formed semi-circularly to extend upwardly at a side of the head of the wearer and inwardly and over the crown thereof adapted to yieldingly embrace the head, a shield formed from relatively thin and colored material to have integral side and forward eye portions disposed in relatively angular planes, said side portion having a relatively narrow rear end and upper and lower relatively diverging marginal edges extending forwardly from said rear end to a relatively wider forward end, a pivotal connection between said rear end of the side portion and an end of said band, said forward portion of the shield extending inwardly from the forward end of the side portion. having. an inner. substantially vertical edge and having a width? substantially equal to that of the outer end of the side portion, all adapted and arranged whereby with the head-band embracing the head of a wearer the side portion of theshie'ld overlies a side of the head and extends forwardly I towards the eye adjacent thereto and the forward eye portion is disposed iniront' oiTsa-id eye while said shield may adjust said forward eye portion relative to said eye.
