Description

(No Model.) H. J AWORSKI.
GIGAB. PBRFGRATOR.
No. 245,956. Patented Aug. 23,1881.

' @ZM/9% 9W? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMANN JAWOBSKI, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
CIGAR-PERFORATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,956, dated August 23, 1881.
Application filed August 30, 1880.
To all whom Muay concern Be it known that I, HERMANN JAWoRsKI, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new, useful, and Improved Cigar- Perforator, ot' which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cigar-perforators, its object being to perforate the closed ends of cigars in the direction of their length.
The nature of this invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, sub-V stantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of the cylindrical case inclosing the operative parts of the perforator. Fig. `2 is a vertical and central section of the cylindrical case, of the operative parts, and of a base in which the case is placed; and Fig. 3 is a vertical and central section of the cylindrical case and operative parts.
To enable others to make and use my improved perforator, I will describe it in detail.
The cylindrical case A is made of metal, of a suitable form to be carried in a pocket in the dress of a person, and is provided with the cover m. The movable guide B is fitted to move freely in the cylinder A, its movement in one direction being limited by the shoulder n, Figs. 2 and 3, and is centrally perforated to admit the perforator D, and made with the semi-spheroidal recess c to hold the closed end of a cigar over the perforator D, and rests on the spiral spring C, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The light spiral spring is made of a size to nearly ll the case, and is arranged between the guide B and the end of the case, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
(No model.)
The perforator D is a straight pointed wire, and is rigidly attached to the end of the case, its pointed end entering the perforation in the guide B, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. In Fig. 2 the perforator is arranged in the base E, and is shown without a cover, and is held in the base by the piece o. The base adapts it for use in stores and other places Where ci gars are sold.
Constructed as above described and as shown, the closed end of a cigar being placed in the recess, and the cigar being gently pressed upon, the guide recedes and the cigar is punctured on its end and in the direction of its length.
I am aware that the respective devices herein claimed are old per' se, and therefore lay claim only to their construction, arrangement, and combination.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The cigar puncturer or perforator consisting of the cylindrical case A, seated in the upright base E, it being confined in place by a ring, o, fitted upon a shoulder of the case, and having a dan ge secured in a recess of or upon the base, puncturer or pert'orator D, secured centrallyin the case, coiled spring C, encircling the perforator D, and sliding receptacle B, resting upon the spring C, having the concavity c, with its lower end terminating in a perforation, and pressing at its upper end against a shoulder, n, upon the inner circumference of the cylinder A, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
HERMANN JAWORSKI.
