This` invention has general reference to steel joists and the samev has particular reference to an improved joist of the open web metallic bar type which is constructed and arranged for supporting concrete floors and the like and which provides nailing strips for securing wooden flooring. thereto in overlying relation with the concrete floors.
The invention primarily comprehends a metallic joist of the aforesaid character in which a' receiving a nailing strip to which wooden ooring is secured in overlying relation with the concrete floors..
The invention further includes angle clips extending under and secured to the opposite ends of the upper chord of the joist and having flanged upper ends adapted to engage over horizontal girders for supporting the same in spanning relation therebetween without the necessity of employing rivets, bolts or other fastening means.
The invention also has inview the provision of a bottom chord formed with a downwardly opening channel for receiving a nailing strip to which .plaster-board, fibre-board and the like is adapted to be secure to form a ceiling structure. v
With the aforesaid and other objects in view reference is now made to the following specifications and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiments of the invention are illustrated.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical' sectional View taken approximately on line 2-2 of Fig. 1 and illustrating the joist supporting concrete and wooden flooring.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary top plan view of one end thereof.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of a modified form of lower chord.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the joist designated generally by the reference -character A is illustrated in the drawings with its opposite ends supported by two horizontally disposed channel girders B.
The joist A includes a web I consisting of a bar fashioned of steel o1' other suitable metal which bar is bent at longitudinally spaced points into undulating formation so as to provide upper and lower longitudinally spaced reversely curved 50 :secured by welding material 28.l

The clips 39 each consist of a vertically `disposed web 3l having an outwardly extending horizontal flange 32 at the upper end thereof and an inwardly extending horizontal flange -33 at the bottom thereof, the upper .flange 32 being formed with a down turned free end or lip 34. The clips 30`are secured to the opposite ends of the upper chord I4, the ends of the mating members I6 thereof being disposed in abutting engagement with the webs 3i and with the anges 20 of said mating members supported upon the lower flanges 33 of the clips. The clips are secured to the chord i4 by spot welding the same as indicated by the welding material 35, the lower chord I5 beingspot welded to the girders B as indicated by the welding material 36. The clips are preferably secured to the upper chord I4 during the assembly of the joist whereby the joist may be lifted bodily and disposed in position on the girders B with the down turned ends or lips 34 engaging over the outer ends of the upper flanges of the girders B.
Instead of the bottom chord I5, the joist A may be provided with va bottom chord 31 as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings. 'I'he chord 31 includes longitudinally extending mating members 38 each of which consists ofa side wall including a' longitudinally extending lower vertical wall portion 39 and a `longitudinally extendingv inwardly directed upper wall portion 49, the lower wall portion having an inwardly directed iiange 4l at the lower horizontal edge thereof. The mating members 38 are arranged in confronting spaced relation on opposite sides of the web I0 .so as to provide a longitudinally extending downwardly opening channel 42 defined by the Vertical side wall portions 39 and the inturned upper wall portions' 40, the latter forming the bottom wall of the channel. The inturned wall portions 49 are recurved outwardly at their inner extremities which recurved portions are disposed in engagement with theopposite sides of the lower curved portions l2 of the web I0 to which said curved portions of the chord 38 are secured by welding material 43.
A nailing strip 44 of wood or other suitable viding means for securing a ceiling structure to the bottom of the joist. The nailing strip 44 is retained within the channel 42 by 'means of the inwardly directed flanges 4I and by nails 45 or other fastening elements extending through the side wall-portions 39 and having their inner ends anchored in the said nailing strip.
What is claimed is: y
1. In a structural joist, aweb consisting of a bar4 bent at Vlongitudinally spaced points into undulating formation to provide upper and lower longitudinally spaced reversely` curved upper and 4 chord consisting of oppositely disposed mating members each including a longitudinally extending upper wall portion, a longitudinally extending inturned lower wall portion and `longitudinally extending top and bottom horizontally disposed flanges projecting inwardly and outwardly respectively at the upper and lower edges of said Ywall portions, said mating members being disposed on opposite sides of the web with the in turned lower wall portions thereof secured to opposite sides oi the upper curved portions of the web to thereby provide a longitudinally extending upwardly opening channel between said mating members and a longitudinally extending nailing strip arranged in said channel with the inwardly directed flanges thereof overlying opposite longitudinal edges of said nailing strip to thereby provide means for securing a wooden flooring upon a concrete iioor supported by said "outwardly directed lower horizontal flanges.
2. In a structural joist, a longitudinally extending web, upper and lower chords extending longitudinally of said web and secured to the ,top and bottom edge portions thereof, said upper `ichord consisting of oppositely disposed mating members each including a longitudinally extending upper wall portion, a longitudinally extending linturned lower wall portion and longitudinally extending top and bottom horizontally disposed flanges projecting inwardly and outwardly respectively at the upper and lower edges of said wall portions, said mating members being disposed in spaced relation on opposite sides of the web to thereby provide a longitudinally extendL ing upwardly opening channel therebetween for receiving therein means for nailing a wooden flooring upon a concrete iioor supported by said outwardly directed lower horizontal flanges with the horizontally disposed top flanges extending inwardly in overlying relation with the longitudinal edges of said means within the channel.
3. In a structural joist, a longitudinally extending web, upper and lower chords extending longitudinally of said web secured to the upper *and lower edge portions thereof, said upper chord at the lower edge thereof and providing an upwardly opening channel between said spaced members above said web for receiving therein means for securing a wooden flooring upon a concrete floor supported by said longitudinally BISA extending horizontally disposed flanges. material is arranged within the channel 42 prolower yportions joined by diagonally extending straight portions, upper and lower chords extending longitudinally of said web and secured to said curved portions respectively, said upper SAMUEL F.
