Application April'9, 19463 Ser'ial' Nbz esog7sa This invention relates. tonew and usefulimprovements and structural refinements. in" containers, more specifically; to ornamental display boxes, and. the principalobject of the}; invention is to 'provide a device of the character herein described, which is composed of a plurality of sections forming the walls, the bottom, and the lid of the container, together with means for securing the adjacent edges of the sections to each other in such manner as to eliminate fastening devices which would penetrate the material from which the sections are formed.

This object is attained by connecting the adjacent edges of the sections with strips of flexible material such as cloth, adhesive tape, or the like, the connection thus formed being rigid and at the same time, highly ornamental and pleasing in appearance.

A further object of the invention is to provide an article of the class described which is simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which it is intended.

With the above more important objects in view, and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction 01 parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.

Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view, taken in the plane of the line 3-3 in Figure 1, with the ornamental ribbons removed for purposes of clearmess.

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the sections or panels.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevation showing the hinged connection of the lids.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view, typiying the connection of the sections at the corner of the container.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a plurality of sections constituting the upstanding walls 10 and the bottom Il ci the container designated generally by the reference character l2.

These sections may be formed from any suitable material which may be transparent, translucent, or opaque, and a strip of flexible material such as a cloth ribbon [3 is folded and secured in a U-shaped cross-sectional formation over the marginal edge portions of each section, as will 2 Glaims. Further lines of stitching l5 in turn, secure together the edge portions of the adjacent strips, whereby the walls l0 are rigidly connected together and to the bottom II.

The top of the container is provided with a suitable lid, or as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, with a pair of lids 16, the same being provided with further marginal strips et flexible material l1. The latter are similar to the aforementioned strips l3 and are fastened in position by the lines of stitching l8.

A strip of cloth, ribbon or other material I9 extends vertically around the side walls of the container, intermediately of its length. Further lines of stitching 20 are used to hingedly connect one of the strips l1 on each of the lids 16, to the upper ends of the strip [9 and to the adjacent strips l3, as is best shown in the accompanying Figure 5.

It will be noted that the inner edges of the lids 16 are spaced apart somewhat, to prevent interference with each other during the opening of the lids, as shown at 21.

The lids 16, as well as the side walls l'0 and the base Il, may have ornamental ribbcns or the like 22 secured thereto and arranged in such manner, as to conceal the stitch lines above described.

While in the accompanying drawings, the container is shown as being of a rectangular form, it should be understood that the invention may loe constructed in any desired shape and of any suitable size.

It is believed that the use and advantages of the invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is considered unnecessary.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A container comprising a plurality of walls and a -bottom, longitudinal strips of flexible folded material, lines of stitching securing said strips to the marginal edges of said walls and said bottom, stitches attaching said strips together at adjacent ends thereof to connect the corners of said walls and bottom, a reinforcing strip intermediate of opposite walls and provided on the top edges thereof, cover means hingedly mounted on said rein.forcing strip at the top edges of the opposite walls, said cover means including top members, longitudinal folded material strips, lines of stitching securing said last-meritioned strips to the marginal edges of said top members, stitches hingedly connecting each of said members to said reinforcing strip at the top of the said opposite walls.

2. In a container, walls having longitudinal strips of folded material along the marginal edges thereof, laterally extending stitches attaching pairs of the shorter ends of said strips, a polygn onal bottom having longitudinal strips of folded material on the marginal edges thereof, laterally extending stitches attaching pairs of tire shorter ends of said last-mentioned strips, stitches secured to said first-mentioned strips and said second-mentioned strips adjacent the ends 4 thereof attaching the said bottom to the said walls, a reinforcing strip secured to opposite walls substantially medially of the length and overlying the top edge thereof, top members having strips of folded material along the longitudinal edges thereof, laterally extending stitches connecting the shorter ends of said last-mentioned strips, stitching means hingedly connecting said top members to said reinforcing strip.
