CHRISTMAS TREE HOLDER Filed June a, 1945 I INVENTOR CLARENCE -J.SCHP\OEDER ATTO NEYS Patented Nov. 30, 1948 UNE'EED STATES PATENT @FFICE CHRISTMAS TREE HOLDER Clarence .l. Schroeder, Sheboygan, Wis. Application June 8, 1945, Serial No. 598,343
1 Claim. 1
My invention refers to an adjustable holder for Christmas trees, poles, or the like. The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive base, having a rectangular bed piece carrying pivoted legs, with arm portions adapted to pierce the tree or pole and a central pin extending from the bed piece for centrally anchoring the Christmas tree or pole.
A further object of my invention is to provide a bed piece with a fluid cup attachment, secured to the bed block, into which the end of the Christmas tree is immersed to insure its life.
With the above and other minor objects in view, the invention consists in peculiarities in construction and combination of parts, as will be fully set forth hereafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a holder base, embodying the features of my invention, the section being indicated by line I-l of Figure 2.
Figure 2, a plan sectional view of the same, partly broken away and in section, as indicated by line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3, a plan sectional view illustrating a rectangular base block with hinge connections to spreading feet members, and
Figure 4, a fragmentary sectional elevation of the center portion of the holder, particularly illustrating means for attaching a fluid cup thereto, the section being indicated by line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring by characters to the drawing, indicates a rectangular block formed with recesses 2 for the reception of cars 3, which form part of the legs 4.
The leg ears are pivoted by bolts 5, which extend through projecting portions of the block.
The upper portions of the legs have extended therefrom arms 5, the ends of which arms carry pins 6.
When it is desired to supply moisture to the holder for use in preserving Christmas trees, I provide a rectangular fluid cup 1, which cup is seated upon the base block, under the overhanging arms and its bottom is provided with an upwardly extended centrally positioned anchoring pin 8.
The cup is secured to the block 1 by downwardly extended lugs 8', which lugs enter the base of the block recesses 2 and are secured by nails or other suitable means.
It is manifest that the pivoted leg elements may be fabricated from any suitable strong material. k
From the foregoing description, it is apparent that Christmas trees of various sizes, as indicated in dotted lines, may be inserted into the cup and anchored to the block by the pin 8 piercing the end of the tree. The tree being under these conditions pressed downwardly, it will cause the legs l to rock upon their pivots and the pins 6, of the arm portion of said legs, will then be pressed into the outer skin of the tree.
It will be noted that the solid base block is reinforced by the metallic bottom of the cup and that said cup is of the approximate same dimensions as the block, whereby the device is compact, while at the same time, the cup is of maximum dimensions and the inwardly extended overhung arms encase and protect the cup.
The same functional conditions will also attain when a pole for any purpose is to be anchored, whereby its position is maintained vertically and the radially disposed legs may be of any length to insure proper balance, whereby the article held in the structure will not tilt.
While I have shown and described one simple exemplification of my invention minutely as to detail, it is understood that I may vary the same within a fair interpretation of the claim.
I claim:
A holder for Christmas trees comprising a rectangular base block having recesses therein, a rectangular fluid cup secured to the upper face of the base block having inwardly beveled lips for restricting the mouth of the cup, an anchor pin extending upwardly from the cup bottom, supporting feet having inwardly overhanging ar-ms above the cup extending over and protecting the beveled face mouth of said cup, ears extending from the feet fitted into the base block recesses, pivots connecting the feet ears and said block, and pins extending inwardly from the ends of the feet arms, the same being circumferentially aligned, with reference to the feet pivots, for piercing engagement with a tree centrally seated upon the cup anchor pin.
