Description

Nov. 16, 1948. s. WAGSTAFF 2,454,018
HOLDER FOR THERMIONIC VALVES AND CBS OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVI Filed Feb. 1, 1945 I nvenior lic zge BQgJZ I Patented Nov. 16, 1948 HOLDER FOB THERMIONIC VALVES AND OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICES George Wagstafl, Long Eaton, England, assignor to United-Carr Fastener Corporation, Cambridge, Mass.
Application February 1, 1945, Serial No. 575,718 In Great Britain April 27, 1944 The present invention relates to holders for thermionic valves, electrical coil units and other electrical devices and saddle or like means for securing them to a panel or support.
According to the present invention a saddle or like means for mounting theholder on a supporting panel is provided with integral projecting lugs adapted to engage in bayonet or other slots in a metal screening can to secure the can to the saddle over the valve or other electrical device. 7
To enable the invention to be fully understood it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which? Fig. 1 is a side elevation partly in section of one embodiment of the invention on the line |-l of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the saddle and holder shown inFig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the lower plate of the saddle.
As shown in the accompanying drawings I indicates a valve holder having a projecting flange 2. The contacts, normally mounted in the holder, are omitted from the drawings for the sake of clarity. The saddle adapted to secure the holder to the panel 3 comprises a pair of metal plates l, 5 each having lateral extensions 6 apertured to receive bolts or the like I to secure the saddle to the panel 3.
The upper saddle plate 4 is formed with a central aperture through which the front face of the holder projects. Rim portions 8 extend inwardly of this aperture and overlap the upper face of the flange 2. The other plate 5 is formed with a generally rectangular aperture having four side edges 9 which overlap and extend beneath the flange 2. At each corner of the aperture integral lugs are provided comprising a portion l extending at right angles to the plane of the plate and an arm i I which is bent outwardly from the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3 to that shown in full lines on the various figures after two plates have been assembled with the holder. The arm H is adapted to engage in the bayonet slot 1'2 formed in the cylindrical side wall of a metal screening can l3 which is normally fitted over the valve or coil unit which would be mounted in the holder. The arm I I also serves to prevent separation of the plates 4, 5 when it is bent into the full line position and accordingly the holder and saddle are retained in assembly and may be handled as a unit.
I claim:
1. A saddle or like member for mounting a.
-5 Claims. (Cl. 114-35) holder for an electrical device on a supporting panel, said saddle comprising a pair of apertured plates in superposed relation, one of said plates having an upstanding portion providing a lug element extending in a plane generally parallel to said plate for engaging one side of said holder, and the other of said plates having means for engagement with a side of said holder opposite said one side and having an integralupstanding element providing an arm element adjacent its free end, for fastener engagement with a shielding device adapted to be secured to said saddle in position to screen said device.
2. A saddle or like member for mounting a flanged holder for an electrical device on a supporting panel and for securing a shielding device for screening said electrical device, said saddle member comprising a pair of superposed plates, the upper of said plates having an aperture, an upstanding portion adjacent said aperture, and means on said upstanding portion for engagement with the upper face of the flange of said holder, and the lower of said plates having an aperture underlying said aperture of said upper plate, a
marginal surface adjacent its aperture for engagement with the lower face of said flange, and an upstanding element extending through said aperture of said upper plate and having adjacent its free end an arm element overlying said upstanding portion and providing means for fastener engagement with said shielding device.
