This invention relates to a grain elevator and treating apparatus, and more particularly to such a device adapted for the loading and unloading ofgrain, and the simultaneous treatment thereof with poison for the extermination of vermin therein.
A primary object of this invention is to elevate and treat grain simultaneously in an improved manner.
A further object of the invention is to drive the elevator and the poison disseminating or treating means simultaneously from a single source of power. Among its features, the invention is characterized by a poison container mounted on the conveyor shaft of the grain elevator, and operable by the driving power for said elevator simultaneously with the actuation thereof.
A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of adjustable means whereby the angle of inclination of the elevator may be varied at the will of the operator. 1
An additional important feature of the invention residesin the provision of an improved container for poison or other treating materialand means in the container for agitating and disseminating the material contained therein, as well as controlling the admission thereof to the grain. A further feature resides in the provision of an attachment for the elevator whereby grain may either be loaded directly from a bin, or may be loaded by the bushel, when it is desired to measure the same prior to loading. 1 Other features will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein there is disclosed a pre ferred embodiment of this inventive concept.

Suitably journaled in end caps l8 and28 are the extremities of a rotatable shaft 2! si1r- The upper end of the shaft 2 l carries a drive pulley 23, driv en by means of a V'-belt 24 whichis in turn driven by a pulley 25 carried by the drive shaft 26 of an electric motor 21, or the like, preferably carried on a frame, generally indicated at 28. secured to the sleeve l5. From the foregoing, it will now be seen that the feed screw 22 when rotated by the belt 24 is adapted to move grain from the inlet at the open end of the sleeve l5 upwardly to the outlet H, to discharge the same into any desired locality, as, for example, a storage bin, a truck body. or the like.
The shaft 2| exteriorly of the end cap I8 carries a pulley 29 which drives through a V- belt 30 a pulley 3| mounted on the extremity Having reference now to the drawings, and
of the shaft 32 supported by mounting brackets 33 on the upper side of the sleeve I5. The shaft 32 terminates in a bevel gear 34 at a point adjacent the lower extremity of the sleeve E5, the bevel gear 34 being adapted to mesh with a bevel gear 35 carried by a vertical shaft 36 which extends upwardly within a cylindrical container or receptacle 3T, suitably secured as' at 3800 one" of the brackets 33-. The receptacle 31 is provided with a lid 3M and is adapted to contain a, poison or similar material for treatment of the grain carried by the elevator.

is provided with a discharge tube 152, whichlopens into an aligned offset portion 43 of the sleeve l5, positioned directly above the helical feed screw 22. It will now be seen that when the elevator is in operation, the shaft 36 is driven through the gears 34 andfrom the shaft 2|, and the agitating fingers ll thoroughly stir up the poison orother material inthe receptacle 3''! and permit the same to pass downwardly through the spout 42; and. the opening '43 for admixture with the grain being conveyed by the feed screw '22.
Means are provided for controlling the flow of poison or the like into. the spout 42 and take the form of aslideplate l' l mounted in the slideway 45 positioned adjacent the opening of the spout 42. Theposition of the slide 44 maybe fixed either' in open position as shown in Figure 5, or in closed position as shown in Figure 4, by means of a set screw 46 suitably mounted in the slide-way '45.
Referring back to the mounting bracket l6, it
will-.be seen, as bestshown in Figure 8, that the bracket comprises a U-shaped member including legs 50- and' a base 51, the legs 50 being secured asnby pins 52 in pivotal relation to the sides of the sleeve l5. The base 5| is pivotally mounted on a" pivot 53 on a plate 54 provided at its extremities with flange plates. 55- provided with clamping screws: 56 to enable the same to be secured to a prop 51 or the like, as best shown in Figure 1.
Thus it willbe seen that pivotal motion exists with respect to the mountingbracket and the sleeve; l5, as well-as the rotatable" movement of the'sleeve within the bracket about the fixed support 5-1, whereby the elevator maybe relatively moved to various positions in the grain bin' and raised or lowered at its open or lower end, as may be desired or necessitated bythe condition and relative position of the grain.
Under certain conditions, it is desired. that grain be fed, as :from bushel baskets or the like, to the elevator, and not picked directly from the bin by the elevator. An attachment, as best shown in Figures-9, 1-0, and 11 is provided for this purpose, and takes the form of a tubular including many advantages of great practical utility andfcoinme'rcial importance.
