NAIL nomine Toor.

PAW. .S/Pwo Tr v Patented Oct. 26, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NAIL HLDING TOOL Paul Siptrott, New York, N. Y.
Application December 12, 1947, Serial No. 791,215
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in nail holding tools, and it has for its object to provide a tool that is light of weight and easy to operate.
The said device has a wide scope of usefulness, as it may not only serve the need of mechanics, and people working in their private hobby-shops, but it may, also, and in particular, be of use and great service to those who operate within a narrow space.
Another object of the invention'is to provide a tool, which, due to its easy operability, will discourage people in general from attempting to drive a nail held by the ngers, into an object, with the danger of getting hurt during such operation.
The ,device is extremely simple of construction, as it consists of only three parts, that is, two side members which are spotwelded onto a suitable spring.
'Ihe side members appear in shape as lingerlike nail holding prongs, curved in a manner so as to provide a convenient grip on the device, which in itself is very compact and easy to carry, and which may be manufactured at an insignificant cost.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational top plan view of my device.
.Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail View showing a spring, forming part of my device; while Figure Il is a perspective View of my said device.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numerals I0, l indicate two members, each of which are provided with curved portions II, II, so as to form a suitable handle-grip during operation of the tool.
Each of the members I0 are made with elongated slightly -bent and tapered end portions I2 which, in turn, terminate in a straight and flat horizontal portion I3 formed with graduated indentations I4, I5, I6, so that when the said members I Il, III are joined together, as shown in Figure 1, different sizes of nails may be held between the two terminal end portions. The said members I0, ID are `held together in springy relationship by means of a spring II having the shape as the numeral 3 with elongated wing portions I8. Said spring is spotwelded, as shown at I9 beneath the curved surfaces II, II of the members IIJ, I0, thus giving a lever effect to the handle of the tool in operation.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, wish to limit myself to the exact construction shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the UnitedtStates, is:
1. A nail holding tool comprising two members, having curved portions to form a handle-grip, slightly bent and tapered sections contiguous to the latter, said sections terminate in flat end portions, horizontal relative to said tapered portions, and being formed with graduated apertures therein, and a spring xedly connecting the two members together.
2. A nail holding tool comprising two members, each of the latter being formed with slightly curved portions upon one side thereof to form a handle-grip, tapered, slightly bent elongations at one end of said members, said elongations terminating in narrow pieces, horizontal with respect to the latter, and being formed with graduated orifices therein, -whereby to receive a nail of different dimensions, and a spring securing said two members together.
3. In a device, as claimed in claim 2, and wherein said spring is of a shape substantially like the numeral 3, and being formed with wing-like extensions, whereby to permit a substantial welding of the spring to said two members.
PAUL SIPI'ROTT.
