34 H WWW ATTORNEYS ANTHONY N.-MASABNY Patented Oct. 26, 1948 PATENT or FICE . cmurs SEATATTACHMENT FOR BARBERS I CHAIRS Anthony N. Masabny, Allston, Masa Application May '7, 1947, Serial No.: 746,473
This invention relates to a childs seat attachment for a barbers chair and it has for one of its Objects to provide a novel device of this character which is relatively simple in construction and which is provided with guard means to prevent the child from slipping off from the seat.
In order to give an understanding of the invention, I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described and then pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a childs seat attachment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2, Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3,' Fig. 1,
The device embodying the invention comprises a base member or seat member I, preferably of sheet material, which is of a size to rest on and be supported by the arms 2 of a barbers chair. Said seat member I is provided at each end with a down-turned flange 3, said flanges, when the seat member is resting on the arms of a barbers chair, being located on the outside of the arms.
Preferably the seat member I will be provided on its under face at each end with a cushion member 4 which contacts the arm 2 of the barbers chair and prevents the device from marring or injuring the chair arms.
The seat member I is also provided at its rear end with down-turned flange portions 5 adapted to engage the rear ends of the chair arms 2, said flange portions 5 preventing the seat member from sliding forwardly on said arms.
For clamping the seat member in position, one of the side flanges 3 is provided with a clamping screw Ii which is screw threaded through said flange and which has at its end a head I of rubber or some other yielding material to engage the outside of the chair arm 2. When the seat member is in place and, the clamping screw 6 is tightened, said seat member will be securely clamped to the chair arms.
The seat member is preferably shaped to present the forwardly extending portion 8 having a convexly rounded edge.
Mounted on the seat portion I is a cushion element 9 which is preferably detachable from the seat portion and which has a convexly curved rounded front edge II] that registers with the convexly curved edge 8 of the seat portion I.
Rising from the seat portion I are two posts I I, said posts being situated on opposite sides of the cushion member 9. Each post carries at its upper end a sleeve I2 and said sleeves are adapted to receive and support a guard member I3 which is 3 Claims. (01. -131) located in front of the child occupying the seat and which serves to prevent the child from sliding off from the seat.
Said guard member I3 is shown as semi-circular and the ends I4 thereof extend through the sleeves I2 and are clamped in position by clamping screws I5 carried by the sleeves. The bowed guard member I3 is thus adjustable forwardly or backwardly to accommodate the child occupying the seat 9.
There is also provided an additional guard element I6 which is a flexible element and is connected at its upper end with the guard I3, at its central portion as shown at I1, and the lower end of which extends underneath the seat portion 3 and is anchored thereto as by a suitable bolt as indicated at I8.
When the device is placed on the arms of a barbers chair, the convexly curved portions 8 and Ill are on the front side of the device, and when the child is placed on the cushion 9, his legs will hang over the rounded edge 8 on either side of the flexible guard member I6. The guard member I3 holds the child in proper position on the cushion 9 and the flexible guard member It prevents the child from sliding off from the seat underneath the bowed guard member I3.
If desired some suitable play things, such for instance as bells I9, may be attached to the bowed guard member I3 so that the child will have play devices to occupy his attention while the barber is cutting his hair.
The cushion 9 is preferably detachably secured to the seat member I. Said cushion member is shown as comprising a base element 20 in the form of a board, a padding 2| on top of the base element 20, and a covering member 22 whichcovers the padding.
The base board 20 is shown as secured to the member I by means of bolts '23 which are provided with nuts 24 for clamping the base member 21!] in position.
I claim:
1. A child's seat attachment for barbers chair comprising a seat member of sheet material adapted to be supported on the arms of a barbers chair, said seat member having at each end a down-turned flange which is situated on the outside of the chair arm when the device is being used and also havingat its rear end a downturned flange to engage the rear end of each chair arm, two posts rising from said seat member and a bowed guard member adjustably carried by said posts and serving to prevent the child from slip ping forwardly on the seat member.
2. A child's seat attachment for barber's chair comprising a seat member of sheet material adapted to be supported on the arms of a barber's chair, said seat member having at each end a down-turned flange which is situated on the outside of the chair arm when the device is being used and also having at its rear end a; downturned flange to engage the rear end of each chair arm, two posts rising from said seat member, a bowed guard member adiustably carried by said posts, and a flexible guard element extending from the center of the bowed guard member to the front of the seat member,
3. The device of the class described comprising a seat member of sheet material adapted to be supported on the arms of a barbers chair, said seat member having at each s ide a do'wn turned flange located on the outside of the chair arm when the device is being used, a clamping screw carried by one flange to engage one chair arm and thereby clamp the seat member to the arms, said seat member also having the down-turned flange situated to engage the back end of each chair arm thereby to prevent said seat member from sliding forwardly, a cushion element attached to said seat member centrally thereof, two posts rising from the seat member, one at either side of the cushion element, a sleeve element at the top of each post, a bow shaped guard member having its ends extending through said sleeves and supported thereby, an auxiliary guard member of flexible material contacting the central portion of the bowed guard member to the center portion of the seat member.
