Description

PATENT CEEICE.
` HENRY D. HURLEYgoE WEEDsPoRT, NEw YORK.
EGG-TESTE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,172, dated August 2, 1881.
' Application filed March 15, 1881. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HENRY D. HURLEY, of
Weedsport, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Tester, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. g The object of my invention is a'convenient and eflicient device by which eggs may be` tested by means of a stream of light, the eggs being contained in a dark chamber. l
The invention consists of anrupright box, supported u'ponsuitable legs, having two chambers, one for the lamp and one for the eggs, the latter being provided with suitable openings, Which are partially closed with disks of soft rubber; also, with openings for the light from the lamp and for viewing the eggs.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a central vertical longitudinal section of my invention 5 -and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken through the line mv of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Thefupright box may be ot' wood, with a metal roof or cover, or it may be entirely of metal; or, preferably, the lamp-chamber Aof the box may be of wood, with the tin or similar sheet-metal portion b secured to it in such manner as to form the egg-chamberB and the roof or cover of the chamber A, as shown.
The partition G between the chambersAand B is formed vwith the opening c, which has se# cured in it the tube c', of felt or other flexible material, and the -outside of this chamber is formed with the 'corresponding opening E, through which the eggs are viewed. This opening is provided with the funnel-shaped tube F, the outer end of which is curved to tit the face of a-person about the eye, so as to shut out all exterior light when the eggs are inspected. The sides of the egg-chamber B are formed with the large openings D D, large enough to admit the hands of the person using the device. These openings are provided withthe perforated disks d d, of soft-rubber or similar. material, which snugly lit over the wrist and shut out the exterior light.
j G represents the lamp, which is of any ordinary construction, and of such height as to bring the llame thereof immediately in front of the opening c. This lamp is placed in the chamber Afthrough the door H of the wood portion ot' the box, and it is provided with the necessary supply of air to support combustion through the holes itin the bottom of thechamber, and the products ot' combustion are permitted to escape through the chimney in opening K in the top or cover, as shown.
ving the same through the opening E, the funnel-shaped tube F shutting out all exterior light fromV that direction, as above stated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The egg-tester herein described, consisting of a box divided into the chambers A and B, the chamber B being provided with the opening c and E and with the side openings, D D, the side openings being provided with the perforated disks d d, as and for the purposes specified.
i 2. The chamber B, havin g the side openin gs, D D, partially closed by the perforated disks d d, and having the openings c and E, in combina-tion with the tube F and iexible tube c', and the lamp-chamber A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
HENRY D. HURLEY.
