Description
Inventor and Patented Sept. 14, 1948 UNITED STATES iATENT OFFICE WRIST-ATTACHED ARTICLE CARRIER Clifford C. Robinson, Sioux City, Iowa Application April 16, 1945, Serial No. 588,435
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to improvements in article carriers of the wrist-attached type for carrying money in bill or note form, especially, although not necessarily.
The invention is designed with the primary object in view of providing a simply constructed, light weight, inexpensive and durable device which may be worn on the wrist with comfort at all time for carrying paper money in compact form, particularly bills of large denomination, in a manner such that liability of theft is reduced to a minimum and the money protected from moisture and the like.
Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claim are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification.
In said drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved article carrier in a preferred embodiment thereof,
Figure 2 is a view in edge elevation,
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation,
Figure 4 is a view in longitudinal section taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 2,
Figure 5 is a view in perspective of the receptacle detached.
Reference being had to the drawing by numerals, my improved article carrier, as shown, comprises a band-type bracelet I of light, strong, spring metal, for instance, fiat, stainless steel, and includes an elongated, rectangular crown 2 of inverted box form, from the ends 3 of which a pair of outwardly bowed, clamping, side members 4 extend in opposedrelation and which converge at their lower ends, with said ends closely spaced apart normally.
As will be seen, the clamping side members 4, together with the crown 2, impart to the bracelet I a clip-like form adapting the same to be snapped over the wrist, not shown, after the clamping side members 4 have been flexed apart sufficiently,
with the crown 2 extending endwise crosswise of the back of the wrist and the clamping side members 4 clampingly engaging the sides and front of the wrist, so that the bracelet l is securely held on the wrist, but may be removed if desired. Preferably, the clamping side members 4 taper edgewise toward their ends to reduce weight and facilitate flexing of the same. The sides 5 of the crown 2 may be bent down from the top of said crown and disconnected from the ends 8 of the crown to facilitate flexing of said sides.
The crown 2 of the described bracelet l is designed to function as a cover for a similarly shaped and sized article-containing receptacle 6 fitting with a close friction fit upwardly into the crown 2 with the ends 3 and clamping side members 4 frictionally gripping the ends 1 and sides 8 of said receptacle. The flat back 9 of the receptacle 5, when said receptacle is fully inserted into the crown 2, is offset below the sides 5 of the crown 2 to rest on the back of the wrist, whereby said sides 5 are prevented from cutting the wrist.
The manner in which the described article carrier is used will be clear from the foregoing. Sufiice it to explain that folded money and the like may be placed in the receptacle 6, the receptacle inserted into the crown 2, and when the bracelet l is applied to a wrist, the clamping action of the side members 4 securely holds the receptacle against the back of the wrist and the crown 2 on said receptacle so that access may not be had to the receptacle until the bracelet l is removed from the wrist. Manifestly, any attempt to remove the bracelet I from the wrist of a wearer, by an unauthorized person, would be so noticeable as to arouse the wearer of the bracelet I; even when asleep, so that the inventionis well adapted to prevent robbery of a wearer of the invention when asleep.
The foregoing will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
An article carrier to be worn on the wrist comprising a, bracelet of spring metal and clip-like form including an integral crown cover portion of inverted box form, and a receptacle separate from the bracelet and fitting upwardly in said crown, said crown cover portion having ends and sides frictionally gripping said receptacle the ends being formed by said bracelet, said receptacle depending below the sides of the crown to rest on the wrist and prevent said sides from cutting the wrist.
