Description

NITED STATES PATENT OFFC.
CHRISTIAN RITTER, OF READING, PEN SYLVANIA.
CIDER-PRESS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,490, dated June 21, 18159.
To all whom et may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN RITTER, of the city of Reading, in t-he county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania., have invented a new and improved mode of making cider and wine in separating the same from its pomace and also to press out lard and tallow and all other substances that require la simi-` lar operation to separate the liquid or fluid from its pomace or cracknels; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists of separating the juice or fluid such as cider, wine, lard, or tallow out of its pomace and cracknels in much less time and to secure the flow ofthe juice or fluid out of the inner parts of the bulk than by any other process heretofore had in use.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed and describe its construction and operation.
lst. The slats in Figure 3 or cross section, marked thereon with the letters A B B B B and C which are chamfered or beveled so as ,to form a channel, between every two slats they being at the outside or next to the pomace or cracknels only one half eighth inch wide, and from thence widening to five eighth inches which secures a free and V--unobstructed passage out of the interior of the bulk of the pomace or cracknels to the outside and place of destiny. The top board marked A and bottom board marked C are vto be supplied only on one side with the slats, and the partition boards marked B B B B on both sides, of which said inner partitions as many can be put in as the operator sees proper to use.
' 2nd. The outside casing marked on Fig. l or front elevation with the letters D D D D D D D D D D D which when the uice or fluid has passed out of the channels of the grooved slats finds a passage through the outside casing.
3rd. The fastening of the slats by having l every alternative slat as in Fig. 8 at one end fastened with a hinge and the other end confined to its place with a doWel pin, which is intended to facilitate the cleaning thereof.
4th. The arrangement of the keeping the outside casing ltogether with bands and hinges as marked on Fig. l or front elevation with the letter E E E E which is intended to facilitate the taking the pomace or cracknels out when done pressing.
I/Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-l The application of the chamfered and groved inner slats and partitions with their fastenings and arrangements which will produce the intended elfect.
