His an object of my invention to provide a surgical clamp that supplies a positive parallel clamping action.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a surgical clamp that will materially facilitate anastamosis of any viscera or tubular organs.
It is a still further object of my invention to provide a clamp which is adaptable for use in holding anatomical parts of varying sizes and shapes.
It is a yet further object of my invention to provide a clamp that is easily adjustable by the pressure of two fingers, that having been once so adjusted remains in adjustment, that will not slip or permit slippage of the parts grasped between its clamping surfaces, and that, having once'performed and completed its function, may be readily released.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a clamp that is especially adapted to receive and to doubly clamp viscera or tubular organs. Through the feature of the removable bar, my clamp is especially adapted to produce a means of mechanical union by any type of suture, cannula, or button (e. g. Murphy button).
An additional object of my invention is to provide a surgical clamp that is simple in form, inexpensive to construct, easy to operate, easy to assemble and dis-assemble, and capable of being easily sterilized.
Further objects and advantages will appear from a consideration of the following description of a specific embodiment of my invention and the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the surgical clamp;
Figure 2 is a side view of the removable bar;
Figure 3 is a partial view of a side member;
Figure 4 is an elevation of a sliding clamp; and
Figure 5 is an elevation of the clamp in operative position.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, my surgical clamp provides a rectangular frame which has end members 5, B and side members 1, 8. The end members have angularly disposed ends 9, II], II, 2 in which the ends of the side members 1, 8 are suitably fastened. The side members 1, 8 are preferably cylindrical. Each side member 1, 8 has a mid-section l3, l3 central thereof having a reduced diameter. This section of reduced diameter defines a seat for a removable bar l4 that spans the side members 1, 8. One end l5 of the removable bar 14 is curved to fit against and firmly seat on the mid-section I3.
The other end It of the removable bar I4 is provided with a catch H to enable it to be firmly seated and hold to the other mid-section l3. The catch l'1- has a tail piece I8 for convenience in grasping and adjustment. A slot I9 is provided whereby it is held to the bar l4 by two screws 20, 2|] or in other suitable manner. A rubber jacket 2| is provided to cover the clamping surface of the removable bar l4 whereby a soft surface is presented to minimize the possibility of damage to any viscera or organ clamped.
In addition to the bar l4, two sliding clamps 22, 22 span the frame. Each of these clamps 22 has an angularly disposed end section 23 etc. which are provided with holes 24, etc., to admit the side members 1, 8. The end sections 23 are slotted 25, etc., for part the depth of the holes 24. Centrally of the clamps 22, 22, a handle 26 is provided. A U-shaped spring 21 with elongated arms is afiixed to the handle 26 by a screw '28 or in another suitable manner; the ends of the ends of the spring 21 extend into the slots '25 and engage the side member 1, 8. Screws 29, 29 attach the spring 21 to the clamp 22. At the screws 29, etc., slots 30 permit the movement of the springs when pressure is applied at points 3|, 3|, thereby disengaging the ends of the springs from the side members 1, 8. For their clamping surfaces, the clamps 22, 2'2 carry bars 32, 32 covered with rubber tubing 33 to present a soft, non-injurious surface to any object clamped.
The mere pressure of the springs 21, etc., on the end members 1, B would not be entirely sufficient to hold the clamps 22, 22 at any selected position; therefore, a series of serrations 34, 34, etc., are formed on the side members 1, 8 at the usual clamping positions. In order that the clamps may be most easily moved center-ward, these serrations are formed like a buttress thread with the slanting surfaces sloping toward the outer ends of the frame and away from the center and the abutment raising vertically from the deepest part of the trough. Thus the clamps may be easily slid toward the center without pressure being exerted at points 3|, 3|. But the abutment of the thread will prevent any out-ward or releasing movement of the clamps 22, 22 unless pressure is exerted at points 3|, 3| to a sufiicient degree to disengage the ends of the spring 21 from the serrations 34,
The use of the device may be somewhat as follows: when it is desired to anastomose (or Join) two tubular organs or viscera, the tubular organs or viscera are placed alongside each other separated by the center bar I 4. The clamps 22, 22, are then moved center-ward in juxtaposition with the bar l4 until the proper amount of pressure is exerted to firmly clamp the organs or viscera in place. After surgery, the viscera is simply released by the exertion of pressure at the points 3|, 3| and the removal sidewise of the clamps 22, 22. The bar I4 is disengaged from the frame and the joined viscera or organs are restored to theirupper' anatomical. position.

A surgical clamp comprising a rectangular frame, a. detachable bar centrally. positioned; thereon, movable clamps positioned on: either side of the central bar, serrations on-:-the rectangular frame on either side of the. detachable banand a spring associated with. each of the movable, clamps engageable. and disengageablew-ith, the serrations.
2. A surgical clamp comprising; a rectangular frame, a detachable bar centrally positioned thereon, movable clamps, positioned. on either side of the central bar, buttress-serrations on the rectangular frame on either side of; thedetachable bar, and a. spring associated witheach of the movable clamps engageableand disengageable with the serrations;
3.
