BOOM SPRAYER Isaac S. Prescott, Orlando, Fla.

3 Claims.
This invention relates to sprayers and more "E is provided with a hose coupling `2'5 fora hose 2li Particularly to boom sprayers such as commonly used for the spraying of orchards and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved and simplified sprayer which can be easily manipulated by a single operator.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved boom sprayer with great flexibility of adjustment so that the spray shower can be selectively adjusted to cover the tree from top to bottom and can be further manipulated to direct the spray shower as the vehicle upon which the sprayer is mounted passes by the tree to cover the maximum part of the circumference of the tree.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sprayer of the type indicated of simplified construction readily adapting itself to cleaning and repair.
Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawing accompanies this specii-lcation as part thereof in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Fig. 1 is a plan view;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation partly shown in cross section;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary cross section taken on the line @-43 of Fig. 2, parts being shown in elevation.
My boom sprayer as illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprises a tubular standard I having its upper end 2 closed and formed with a radially projecting handle 3.
This standard I is mounted for axial rotation upon a pedestal l provided at its upper end with a bearing 5 and at its lower end with a foot 6 adapted to be secured upon the platform of a truck or other vehicle carrying the tanks, cornpressors and the like, not illustrated herein.
If desired one of the improved boom sprayers can be mounted on either side or top, front or rear of a truck or other vehicle facing in outward direction and the platform will be constructed of sucient width and size to accommodate an operator.
Upon the standard I is secured a tubular member 1 which is bent on its long axis to an arcuate shape and which may be secured to the standard 2 as herein illustrated as by clips 8 8 or welded as may be preferred. One end' of the tubular memwhich extends to the spray tank.
On one face of the tubular member 'I are provided a, plurality of threaded nipples I0. It has been found advantageous to provide an ample number of such nipples to permit adjustment of the sprayer heads as may be desired and such of the members Ill as are not actually used with sprayer heads may be closed with caps II.
Associated with each of the members I0 is a sprayer head which sprayer heads are well known and a preferred form of which, herein illustrated Without details, comprises a body part I3 through which extends an adjustment stem I4, the body carrying one or more spaced discharge ports 23 through which the spray emerges. The body part I3 of each sprayer head is formed with a radially projecting threaded nipple I5 and the threaded nipples I5 of the sprayer head and I0 of the tubular member are rotatably connected by two coupling members I6 and I'I. The coupling member I'I is interiorly threaded to engage the threaded portion of the two members I5 and IIl and externally threaded to receive the internal thread of the coupling member I6 which is adapted to compress packing rings I9 against the end of the coupling I1, thus assuring a tight joint While at the same time permitting the limited rotation of the sprayer head such as may be desired for adjusting the spray screens selectively as the truck approaches a particular tree. r
A guard member 2I is secured by one edge to the standard 2 and has its opposite edge 22 curved to conform substantially with the curvature of the tubular pipe 1, this guard 2I being of suicient width to extend almost to the line defined by the discharge ports 23 of the sprayer heads and serves to protect the sprayer heads from the branches of trees as the truck carrying the sprayer passes the same.
Various modifications in the precise construction and arrangements of the parts will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art but within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention I claim:
1. A boom sprayer comprising a rotatable standard, a tubular member bent on its long axis to arcuate shape and secured by its ends to the standard, said tubular member having an end closed and the other end provided with a hose connection, said tubular member having on one face a plurality of spaced nipples, a plurality of spray heads and means for rotatably mounting said ber 'I is closed as by a cap 9 and the opposite end 55 spray heads on said nipples.
3 2. A boom sprayer comprising a pedestal, a standard having a radially disposed handle, said standard being mounted on the pedestal for axial rotation, a tubular member bent on its long axis to arcuate shape and associated with said standard with the latter coinciding with a chord of said arcuate shaped tube, said tubular member having one end closed and the other end provided with a hose connection; -saidtubular member having on one side, face a plurality of spaced nipples, a plurality of sprayer heads and means for rotatably mounting said spray heads on said nipples.
3. A boom sprayer comprising arotatable standard, a tubular member bent on its long a-Xis to` arcuate shape with its ends extending transversely of and secured to the standard, said tubular member having one end closed and2 having a hose-connection, said tubular member having a pluralityof spaced nipples, a plurality of sprayer heads, means for rotatably mounting said` sprayer heads on "said nipples and a guard member having one edge secured to the 'standard and its. outer edge conforming' substantially with the curvatureV of the tubular member and extending substantially tothe line dened by the outlets of the sprayer heads.
