Application August 22, 1945, Serial No. 611,948
1 Claim.
The invention relates to an adjustable support, and more especially to a portable adjustable hold-all stand.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein an article to be held in a determined position 'can be supported in such position, and is susceptible of variable changed positions when within the said device, the latter being of novel construction, and unique in the arrangement thereof, to be stable when at rest, and may be moved from place to place with ease and dispatch.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein it involves a clamp for the holding of an article firmly in an adjusted position, the device being especially designed for the holding of a flash or other like lighting equipment, and may be raised or lowered vertically and at any desired angle to the vertical.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the base thereof is of open formation, so that when carried in the hand with a light supported thereby illumination will be had beneath such base, and the illumination will be cast in all directions.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein it can be folded into a compact condition, and when erected and at rest, will be steady, it being also susceptible of carrying in the hand or hung upon a supporting medium.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, readily portable, conveniently adjusted, neat in appearance, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure l is a side elevation, partly broken away, of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 looking at substantially right angles thereto.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view of the base element.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the lower section of the standard of the device.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constructed in accordance with theinvention, comprises a ring-like base, only a portion thereof is identified at H), and can be of any size required, having a central slightly upwardly bowed plate forming a bridge piece H which is at opposite ends unitary with the peripheral base ring. Rising from the bridge piece It approximately medially thereof is a sectional adjust-able upright or standard, its upper and lower sections l2 and I3, respectively, have elongated slots l4 running longitudinally thereof. The lower section [2 has a laterally turned attaching ear or flange [5 at substantially right angles thereto, and into which extends the slot M for a distance thereof.
The bridge piece H midway thereof has fitted therein a wingnut carrying bolt I6 which engages in the slot M for adjustably connecting the ear Hi to this bridge piece for the carrying of the standard or upright by the base H1. The upper and lower sections it and I3 are adjustably connected to each other by wing-nut carrying bolts ll, so that the standard or upright can be lengthened or shortened, as should be obvious from Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
Above the laterally out-turned flange IS on the upper section l2 at the uppermost portion thereof is a universally adjustable clamp, involving opposed plates [9 provided with registering ball or cup shaped sockets 20 for accommodating ball terminals 2 I, one being formed with a shank 22 riveted to the flange l8 in upstanding rela tion thereto, and the other terminal has a yoke stem 23 of a sprlngy jawed article holding yoke, saddle, or cradle 24 with a retractile gripping spring 25, so that an article, as for example, the flash light 26, can be readily placed and firmly held. The plates l9 form the clamping members and are releasably secured by adjusting bolts 2! engaged therewith. The clamp permits the article held by the yoke or cradle 24 to be selectively turned and angularly adjusted to the vertical in all directions, and the manner of-doing this need not be described herein, as such is obvious from the drawing.
The yoke or cradle 24 can be of any selected size and shape of accommodating difierent kinds of articles to be held thereby. The device in its entirety can be of determined size according to the supporting needs thereof and may be made from any desirable material or materials.
What is claimed is:
thereon, one of said cup-shaped ends positioned l on the ball at the upper end of the standard, a ball carried by the other of said cup-shaped ends .4 having a stem with a U-shaped cradle thereon extending therefrom, and a coil spring extending transversely across said cradle for resilently holding a flashlight or the like therein.
