This invention're'lates to brass'ies, and more 'particularly to a garment of this '-kind having resilient means to yieldingly Support the breasts in a lifted position.
Another object of the invention is to provide, 1
in combination with a brassirel having breastreceivingcups,v elasticV straps eiiteriding taicro the lower portions of -'the cups-soasftofpass underfthe breasts and yieldinglysupport 1"them injaflifted position.
A still `further object ortho-invention istolprovide elastic breast-supporting straps which are so constructed and arranged as to support the breasts in a lifted position without any discomfort to the wearer.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a brassire having a front portion provided with a central elastic insert at a zone between the breast-receiving cups and provided with reinforcing tapes along the upper edges of the insert,
:said edges and tapes being formed to provide fullness and insure comfort to the wearer.
The exact nature of the present invention will 'become apparent from the following description 'when considered in connection with the accomipanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevational View, in opened condition, of a brassire constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the bras- :sire as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig- Yure 2.
Figure 4 is a section taken on line 4 4 of Figvure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the body of lthe garment is of general vertically narrow and "horizontally elongated form, and is composed of substantially similar end sections 5 and 5a having central elastic gussets 6 and 5a inserted in the including similar upper front sections 'I and 'Ia formed to provide breast-receiving cups; a central elastic insert 8 in the lower edge of said upper "front portion; and a lower front band portion 9 stitched to the lower edges of the upper front sections I and 'Ia and the elastic insert 8. The
The elastic insert 8 has downwardly curved and diverging upper edges I0, and downwardly curved :and diverging reinforcing tapes I I are stitched tb ithfe edges im -andlthe .edges ofthe upper front v ionsfand .'Iali'neetingjtherewth. Thiscon- `st c'tion'providesfstrength, elasticity andlfullness fwhere the-cups jin-at their@ adjacent lowerapo'rrions. N j i i The outer or free vertical edges of the end-.fseetio'nsfi-E 'and 15d vare respectively lprovided with hooks 7 lf2 fandeyes |13 to facilitate` connection` of the endsfofthe brassiref atth'e'sback,` there .pref- -efablylbeing tw'o. rowsfof eyes J I V3 'for adjustment.
Also, ftheflsectins 5 A andi 5a`i have .upward eXtensions I4 to which are attached corresponding ends of shoulder straps I5. have upward extensions I6 to which are attached buckles I'I adapted to coact with the shoulder straps I5 so that the latter may be adjusted to suit the requirements of the wearer. To the lower edge of the garment are attached supporters I8 that may be detachably engaged with the upper edge of a girdle when one is worn by the user of the brassire.
Extending across the lower portions of the cups formed by the sections 'l and la are elastic straps I9 arranged to pass under the breasts and yieldingly support the same in lifted position. These straps I9 are attached at their opposite ends to opposite sides `of the cups, and said straps are disposed in downwardly diverging relation, as shown in Figure 2. The arrangement is such that the desired support is effectively provided in a way lower portions thereof; an upper front portion to insure maximum comfort to the wearer. Such comfort is further insured by constructing each of the straps I9 of inelastic end sections 2U of pile fabric and an intermediate elastic` section 2|. By the use of thestraps I9, the breasts are supported in a most desirable manner, and it is not necessary for the cups to have an accurate fit as to form and size.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction and advantages of the present garment, as well Ias the manner in which the same functions, will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art. The garment is simple and efliciently provides the desired characteristics. Min-or changes may be made in the form and construction of parts illustrated and described, such as fairly fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A brassire comprising a horizontally elongated body composed of a front section and substantially similar end 'sections and adapted to be secured around a wearer, said front section comprising an inelastic lower under-breast band portion and an upper portion shaped to provide The sections l and I'aalso` gated body composed of a front section `and sub stantially similar end sections and adapted to be secured around a wearer, said front section com prising 'an inelastic lower` under-breast band portion and an upper portion shaped to provide breast cups, said upper portion including a main inelastic part and a central horizontally yieldable elastic insert in the lower edge of said inelastic part and attached to the upper edge of said under-breast band portion, said insert being horizontally elongated and having upper downwardly curved edges which extend in downwardly diverging relation from the inner sides of the breast cups substantially to the centers of the latter. v
3. A brassire comprising a horizontally elongated body composed of a front section and substantially similar end sections and adapted to be secured around a wearer, said front section comprising a lower band portion and an upper portion shaped to provide breast cups, said upper portion including a main inelastic part and a central horizontally yieldable elastic insert in the lower edge of said inelastic part, said insert being horizontally elongated and having upper downwardly curved edges which extend in downwardly diverging relation from the inner sides of the breast cups substantially to the centers of the latter, and downwardly diverging elastic breast supporting and separating straps extending -across the lower portions of the breast cups and permanently attached at their outer ends to the outer sides of the upper portion near the bottom .of said upper portion and at their inner ends to the vertical center of the upper portion near the top of said upper portion, said straps being Vfree of connection said upper portion except at their dS.
