1 Claim. (Cl. 240-2) This application, a division of my prior application Serial No. 513,050, led Dec. 6, 1943, which eventuated into Patent No. 2,382,101 on August 14, 1945, relates to electric irons and more particularly to means for illuminating the surface upon which the iron is moving and the area around the iron.
For an understan-ding of the electric ironherein disclosed, reference should be had to the appended drawing. In the drawings,
Fig. 1 shows an electric iron, with a cover part cut away for clarity.
F'ig. 2 is a section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Figs, 1 and 2 show an electric iron having a narrow slit 48 between the sole plate 33 and the cover 30 through which light from the bulbs 42 illuminates the area around the iron. The edges of the slit are formed as indicated to guide the light rays downwardly and conceal the light bulbs from above and from' the sides of the iron.
The bulbs 42 are threaded into sockets 4l mounted on plate 40 fastened to heating plate 35 by screws 3l for handle 36, which screws pass through insulatingwashers :i1- 38.
Now having described the electric iron herein disclosed, reference should be had to the claim which follows.
I claim: i
AnI electriciron comprising a sole plate, a,`
application August heating plate on said sole plate. a set of insulat ing washers on said heating plate, alight supporting plate supportedby said washers, a second set of insulating washers on said light supporting plate, a cover having a. depending flange supported by said second set of washers, means for fastening said cover to said heating plate and extending through said washers and said light supporting plate and securing the depending ange of said cover parallel and in spaced relation to said sole plate around its sides and nose, and lights carried by said light supporting plate and disposed adjacent the space between said cover and said sole plate.
