CLOTHESPIN DISPENSER Filed Jan. so, 194e I 'i' I' Patented Mar. 9, 19,48
UNITEDV STATES PATENT OFFICE CLOTHESPIN DISPENSER Katherine Vena Bell, Jersey City, N. J.
Application January 30, 1946, Serial No. 644,212
4 Claims. (Cl. 312-73) The invention as described herein, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, consists of a dispenser box, an object of which is to provide means for keeping clothes pins in an orderly manner and whereby they may be readily dispensed one at a time.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clothes pin box having a spring controlled outlet for the pins.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clothes pin box provided with means whereby one pin at a time may be dispensed therefrom.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention,
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view thereof, and
Figure 3 is a sectional view 4taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
While one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of the device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claims. An-d while there is stated the primary field of utility of the invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable.
In the accompanying drawings, and in the following specification, the same reference characters are used to designate the same parts and elements throughout and in which I refers to the invention and I I indicates a box or receptacle of a, width slightly greater than the length `of a clothes pin I2. To the upper edge I3 of the iront wall i4 of the box is hinged at I5 a top I6 provided with a knob I1 adjacent the edge I8 of the top which closes against the upper extension I9 of the rear wall of the box. Connecting said rear wall 20 and the edge 2| of the bottom wall 22 is an arcuate false bottom 23, which inclines to bottom wall edge 24.
Hinged by a piano hinge 25 to the edge 2| of the fixed bottom wall section 22 is a, trap door 26 held normally closed by the arms 21 and 28 of springs 29 and 30 coiled upon the pintle 3| of said hinge 25, the other arms 32 and 33 of the springs bearing upon the wall 22. At the opposite side edges of the door 26 are provided wings or guide plates 34 and 35 having arcuate notches or recesses 36 at their forward edges through which the pins I2 may pass. These notches are of such a size as to permit only one pin to be removed from the box at a time.
To the forward edge 31 of the trapdoor are i'lxedly secured the lower ends 38 of a plurality of spaced parallel straps 39 preferably of plastic material. The upper ends 40 of the straps 39 are provided with slots 39' that slidably engage rivets or the like 4I carried by the inner side 42 of the wall I4. Such an arrangement, permits the door to be lowered relative to the bottom of the box a restricted distance. A further function of these straps is to hold pins from rolling off the trap door when the latter is pressed down against the tension of springs 29 and 30 by the extending finger plate 43 projecting from the corner 44 of the said door 26, whereby the latter may be opened to permit a pin I2 to be pushed out by the finger bearing down upon the member 43.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a convenient and handy means for storing clothes pins when not in use and from which they may be easily dispensed as needed.
It will become apparent from the above description that the invention disclosed will adequately accomplish the functions for which it has been designed and in an economical manner and that its simplicity, accuracy and ease of operation are such as to provide a relatively inexpensive device considering what it will accomplish and that it will find an important place in the art to which it appertains when once placed on the market.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described the invention that which is claimed to be new and desired to be procured by Letters Patent is:
1. A clothespin dispenser comprising a receptacle having a rigid bottom and a trap door v hinged thereto, means for normally holding the door in a closed position relative to the bottom, means for holding a group of clothespins within said receptacle when the door is opened relative to the lbottom, and means for guiding a pin from the receptacle, said holding means including a plurality of spaced parallel strips slidably carried by said receptacle fixedly engaging the door.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said guide means includes wings carried by the sides of the doonhaving-a-recess atone' end opposing a selected pin-within the receptacle.
3. A clothes pin dispenser comprising a receptacle having a rigid bottom and a trap door hinged thereto, spring means for normally holdingithe door in a closed position relative to the bottom, a plurality of straps slidably carried'byisaidreceptacle and xedly mountedon the door forsupporting a plurality of pins Within the receptacle when the door is open, an inclined wall within the receptacle communicating with the door, and means for guiding a pin from the receptacle when the door is in an open position.
4. The combination of claim 3 wherein said guide means are carried by the door.
