This invention relates to holsters for carrying side arms, such as pistols of all types, and it has for its principal object the provision of a light, compact and inexpensive device by which side arms can be comfortably and conveniently carried at the proper angle and with less bulk and weight than is attendant upon conventional types of holsters.

' Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a pistol or side'arn' s holster which, by reason of its simple and incomplex design, can be worn constantly, after removing the arms, without discomfort to the wearer and therefore obviates the necessity for removing and replacing the holster each time the arms are removed in order to avoid the bulk and weight of the conventional type of holster.

A still further object of the invention is manifest in the provision of a holster in which side arms can be inconspicuously carried by peace offlcers, guards, and other similarly employed persons, beneath a coat or jacket and at a comfortable and convenient angle at the wearers side, at once providing for ready access to the gun and retaining the same in position where its stock and muzzle cannot present objectionable projections or bulges when the wearer assumes a sitting, squatting or stooping position, or contact the bottom or back of a chair, and consequently excessively wear the clothing,

Broadly, the invention seeks to comprehend the provision of a holster for side arms which is designed to adequately support any type of pistol or revolver in a convenient, comfortable and inconspicuous manner and provide a device capable of being collapsed at the wearers side, when arms are not carried, so that its presence is scarcely apparent.

While the foregoing objects are paramount, other and lesser objects will become manifest as the description proceeds, taken in connection with the appended drawings wherein:

Figure 1 illustrates the invention in rear elevation, showing its inner face on which the arms supporting blocks are arranged, a pistol being fragmentarily shown in dotted lines.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the invention as a tached to a belt, the latter being shown in dotted lines.

Figure 3 illustrates the invention applied to the wearers belt and operatively supporting a pistol, and

Figure 4 shows the invention, in plan, attached to a belt and in its collapsed condition.

Accordingly, the invention comprises a flexible strip of leather, or other suitable material, providing a body Illwhich may be of any desired form but preferably substantially oval, as shown in Figures 1 and 3. An obliquely arranged slit I I is provided near each end of the body Ill to receive a belt I2 so that the body It] can slide therealong as desired. The slits I I are arranged in parallelalignment, as in Figure 1,

A pistol I3 is supported in the body I t by a pair of spaced blocks I 4 and I5 which are preferably formed by laminations of leather which are skived to effect the angular shapes of the blocks I4 and I5 which are tapered and have thickened sides a and b, respectively, which are arranged in opposing parallel alignment obliquely of the body Ill.

The block I4 is positioned adjacent to the slit I I forwardly of the body ID, in the manner shown in Figure 1, and is engageable by the top of the barrel I6 of the gun I3, as illustrated in dotted lines in Figure 1, and the opposite block I5 is positioned rearwardly of the body It, and spaced from th block I4, to provide a rest for the trigger guard I'I. It is desirable that the block I 5 be formed with a curved upper surface 0 to conform to the curve of the trigger guard IT in the manner illustrated in Figure 1, The opposing faces a and b of the blocks I4 and I5 are in parallel alignment. Each of the blocks I4 and I5 may be arranged or formed, in the construction of the invention, to suit the particular requirements and to accommodate the different types and sizes of arms, such as automatics, revolvers, or the like.

The gun I3 is supported between the body In and the belt I 2, as illustrated in Figure 3, and by tightening the belt I2 is securely held against accidental displacement when the wearer runs, bends, sits, or performs other similar activities. Obviously, by a slight expansion of the body, the wearer can tighten his belt and more firmly grip the pistol I3, an act which would not be possible with the use of a conventional typ of holster.

The invention may be collapsed, when th gun I3 is removed therefrom, in order that it can lie relatively flat against the wearers side and its bulk minimized so that its presence is unobvious. Such an arrangement renders it unnecessary to remove the invention from th belt I2.

Manifestly, the structure herein shown and described is capable of considerable modification by persons skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and intent of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. In a holster for side arms, in combination with a common belt, a flexible strip having spaced oblique parallel slits arranged adjacent to each end capable of slidably receiving said belt, a pair of spaced skived blocks rigidly attached to the inner face of said strip adjacent to said belt and having opposing oblique faces substantially parallel and providing a support for a pistol whereby the same is firmly supported at a comfortable angle at the wearers side.

2. In a holster for side arms, in combination with a belt arranged through trouser belt loops, leather strip formed with a pair of obliquely arranged spaced belt slits, a pair of skived leather blocks arranged on said strip adjacent to said belt between said slits and spacedto accommodate a pistol therebetween and provide a support therefor, the said blocks having their opposing faces in oblique parallel alignment whereby said pistol is supported at a, comfortable and convenient angle at the wearers waist.

3. In a side arms holster forpistols, and the like, in combination with a common trousers belt arranged in belt loops, a leather strip formed with oblique belt slits near each end to slidably support said strip on a belt, a pair of angularly formed blocks having obliquely arranged operative faces attached to the inner face of said strip between and slightly below said slits and spaced to accommodate a pistol therebetween and support the same.

4. In a holster for pistols, or the like, in comslits therein providing for slidable attachment to said belt, a pair of angularly formed blocks secured to the inner face of said strip between said slits and having their opposing faces obliquely arranged in parallel alignment, the said blocks being spaced to provide a support for a pistol in .an oblique arrangement with respect to said belt.
