Hagenbook'onDecember 22, 1945,.now Patent No; 2,424,394, discloses a means for holding the base of an articulated connection for a conveyor trough line in position on an uneven bottom, without bending the base-of the articulated con.- nection or binding the moving parts. mounted thereon, The device of my present invention is somewhat similar to that disclosed in the beforementioned application of L. D. Hagenbook, but
' difiers therefrom in that the-base is jacked down on the mine bottom and may be bent to substan-' tially conform to the uneven mine bottom, by the jacks interposed between the base and. the' mine roof, and has a plate mounted thereon for restrained vertical movement with respect thereto, which carries the moving parts of the articulatedconnection so that bending of. the base will not bend the plate or affect the parts mounted thereon.
This and other objects of my invention will appear from time to time as the following specification proceeds and with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:

The distance'between the flanges of said flanged rollers is greater than the thickness of said bearing strips to permit vertical displacement of said supporting frame 25 with respect to said rollers, to take care of variations in angles of the connecting trough l0 and the troughing connected to and extending therefrom (not shown) with respect to the base I2. An outboard support 36 extending forwardly from said supporting frame and herein shown as being formed integrally therewith, is secured to and forms a support for the bottom of the connecting trough l0, adjacent its forward end.
The control frame 33 extends rearwardly of the rollers 3 l 3| beneath the intermediate trough l5, and its rear portion rests on the plate H3. Said control frame is pivotally mounted on said plate for movement about a vertical axis, disposed centrally of said plate, on a vertical bearing boss 31, mounted on and projecting upwardly from said plate (see Figure 4). Said control frame also has a pair of laterally spaced brackets 38, 38 opening towards each other and extending upwardly therefrom. Each of said brackets has a support-' ing and guide roller 39 mountedthereon, on a vertical shaft 43 and ball bearings 4|, ll. Said rollers have V-shaped engaging faces which are adapted to engage corresponding V-shaped recesses extending along bearing strips d3, 43, mounted on and extending along opposite sides of a rearwardly projecting portion '44 of the supporting frame 25, and forming an antifriction support for the rear portion of said frame.
The vertical shafts 40, 40 each have an eccentric upper end portion 45 mounted in the upper portion of the bracket 38, and an eccentric lower end portion 46 mounted in the lower portion of said bracket (see Figure 7). A threaded lower end of said shaft extends beneath said'bracket and has a nut 41 threaded'thereon. A pin '48 holds said nut from turning movement with re--- spect to said shaft. Turning said nut in one direction will move the roller towards'its associ-- ated' bearing strip 43 and form a means to take care of wear of the recessed face of said'bearing stripand the face of'said roller. A locking member- 49 in the formof an open end wrench is adapted to engage the head of said nut, to hold said nut and shaft from movement. The outer end of said locking member has a cap screw 56 threaded therein, which extends through the bracket 38 so as to be accessible from the top of said bracket.
The boss 23 depends from and is mounted in the bottom of the intermediate trough l adjacent the rear' end thereof. An annular bearing member 5! is secured to and depends from the bottom of the connecting trough II, and is pivotaiiy mounted on said boss.
A retaining cap 53 is secured to the bottom of said boss as by cap screws 54, 54. Said cap extends along the bottom of the annular bearing member 5| and laterally therefrom and along the inner portion of a support frame 55, mounted on the outer periph- 7 ery of said bearing member, and serves to hold said annular bearing member and support frame in position with respect to each other and with respect to said depending boss. Anti-friction supporting and guide rollers 51, 51, having v-- shaped engaging faces, are mounted in bifurcated bracket portions 59, 59 of the support frame 55, and are adapted to engage recessed facing V- shaped guides 60, 60, extending along opposite sides of the plate i4. Said guides are mounted in channels 6|, 6! extending along said floating plate M adjacent opposite sides thereof. Studs and nuts 62, 62 are provided to secure said guides to said channels and floating plate.
The rollers 51, 51 are mounted on shafts B3, 63 having opposite eccentric ends, and have suitable nuts threaded on and secured to their upper ends, to form a means for turning said shafts to take care of wear of said rollers 51, 51 and guides 68, 6B, in much the same manner as the rollers 39, 39. Looking members 65, 65 are provided to engage said nuts and lock said shafts from turning movement (see Figures 6 and '1).
A centering means is provided to center the base !2 and plate 14 with respect to the stroke of the conveyor when initially setting up the conveyor, to prevent the rollers 51, 51 from coming out of engagement with the guides 60, 55 during reciprocation of the conveyor. Said centering means is operated by hinged bearing plates 65, 65 adapted to be engaged by the jacks l3, I3, when holding said base in position on the ground. Said hinged bearing plates are held in an upright position when the jacks i3, !3 are disengaged therefrom by means of springs 51, 61, and when in this position, the centering mechanism is in position to center said base. When said bearing plates are engaged by said jacks, they are pivoted downwardly into engagement with the base i2, and pivot the centering mechanism into an inoperative position. Said centering mechanism operates on principles similar to those shown and described in Patent No. 2,347,074, which issued to E. R. Bergmann on April 18, 1944, and is no part of my present invention so will not herein be shown or described further.
Referring now to the mounting for the plate i l on the base l2, a longitudinal shaft 10 is mounted adjacent one side of the base E2 in spaced support brackets 1|, 1la, mounted on the top surface of said base and projecting upwardly therefrom a slight distance. Said shaft forms a pivotal mounting for the bearing plate 66 which is on the right-hand side of the machine when looking towards the trough H, and also forms a pivotal mounting for the plate M on bracket members 12, 12a extending outwardly from said said shaft is engaged at its top by a pair of longitudinally spaced compression springs 13, 13,- which yieldably restrain upward movement of said floating base about the axis of said shafts'lil. As herein shown, said spring encircles a sleeve 14 extending through an apertured portion of said plate, and is abutted at its upper end by a washer '75 mounted on a bolt it extending through said sleeve. A nut ll threaded on the upper end of said bolt holds said washer in position on said sleeve. The lower portion of said sleeve is flanged and has the bottom of said plate resting thereon. Said sleeve has a downwardly projecting annular portion is, which extends through an apertured portion of the base l2 and may be secured to said base in a suitable manner, as by welding. Sufficient clearance is provided between said sleeves and the apertured portions of said plate to permit pivotal movement of said plate against the springs l3, 13, so that flexing of the base l2 will not flex said plate.
It ,may be seen from the foregoing that when the jacks l3, l3 are set on the hinged bearing plates 66, 66 and pivot said plates to rest on the top of the base l2, as in Figure 1, that they may be tightened between said base and the min roof, to hold said base from movement with respect to the ground, and that where the ground is uneven, said jacks may exert sufficient pressure on opposite sides of said base to bend it to conform to the ground without bending the plate Hi, said plate pivoting about the longitudinal shaft against the springs l3, T3, to adapt it to substantially the plane of the shaker conveyor trough line.
While I have herein shown and described one form in which my invention may be embodied, it will beunderstood that the construction thereof and the arrangement of the various parts may be altered without departing from the spirit and scope thereof. Furthermore, I do not wish to be construed as limiting my invention to the specific embodiment illustrated, excepting as it may be limited in the appended claims.
I claim s my invention:
1. An articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough line including a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between a mine roof and opposite sides of said base, for holding said base stationary on a mine bottom, a, plurality of troughs mounted on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, and a plate overlying said base and forming a support means for said troughs and the articulated supporting mechanism therefor, and a mounting for said plate on said base, connecting said plate to said base for restrained movement with respect to said base in a vertical direction, so as to relieve said plate from the bending strains imparted to said base by means of said jacks and to prevent binding of said troughs and the supporting means therefor, when said base is distorted by jacking down on an uneven mine bottom.
2. An articulated connection for a shaker conveyer trough line including a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between a mine roof and opposite sides of said base, for holding said base stationary on a mine bottom, a plurality of troughs mounted on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, a plate overlying said base and forming a support means for said troughs and the articuing for saidplate on said :base connecting :said plate to said base for restrained movement. with respect to said base-in a vertical directionv solias. to relievesaidplat from the bending strains 'iml-i parted'to said'fbase by means aofsaid .jacksg-to prevent w'binding ofv said troughs and the support-- ing means thjerefor :when said "base -;-is bent by jacking down: onan .uneven mine bottom; and the connection between: said :base andv plate -:including a pivotal mounting for one side of said plate on said base, and yieldable means engaging the opposite side of said plate.
3. An articulated connection for a shaker conveyortrough line including a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between amine roof and opposite sides of said base, for holding said base stationary on a mine bottom, a plurality of troughs mounted-on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, a plate overlying said base and forming support means for said troughs and. the means for supporting said troughs for reciprocable and lateral movement with respect to said base, a mounting for said plate on said base connecting said plate to said base for restrained movement with respect to said base so as to relieve said plate from the bending strains imparted to said base by said jacks, to prevent binding of said troughs and the supporting means therefor when said base is distorted by jackingdown on an uneven mine bottom, and the connection between said base and said plate including a shaft mounted on said stationary base adjacent one end thereof and extending longitudinally of the conveyor trough line and forming a pivotal mounting for said plate, and yieldable means connected between said base and said plate for yieldably restraining vertical movement of said plate.
4. An articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough line including a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between a mine roof and opposite sides ofsaid base, for holding said base stationary on a, mine bottom, a plurality of troughs mounted on said base for reciproe cable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, a plate overlying said base and forming a, support means for said troughs and the means for supporting said troughs for reciprocable and lateral movement with respect to said base, a mounting for said plate on said base connecting said plate to said base for restrained movement with respect to said base so as to relieve said plate from the bending strains imparted to said base by said jacks, to prevent binding of said troughs and the supporting means therefor when said base is distorted by jacking down on an uneven mine bottom, and the connection between said base and said plate including a shaft mounted on said base adjacent one side thereof and. extending longitudinally of the conveyor trough line and forming a, pivotal mounting for said plate, and spring means connected between said base and the side of said plate opposite from said shaft, for yieldably restraining movement of said plate in an upward direction.
5. In an articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough line, a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between the mine roof and said base, for holding said base stationary on the mine bottom, a driving trough and a driven trough, and means for mounting said troughs on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto andso one may be moved laterally with respect to the other; in-- eluding a plate extending over and mounted onsaid base for restrained movement with respect thereto in a vertical direction about one side of said base, so as to avoid binding of the operating parts of said articulated connection when said first mentioned base is distorted by the pressure exerted on opposite sides thereof by said jacks, when on an uneven mine bottom.
6. In an articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough line, a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between the mine roof and said base, for holding said base stationary on the mine bottom, a driving trough and a driven' trough, and means for mounting said troughs on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one maybe moved laterally with respect to the other, including a plate extending over, and mounted on'said base for restrained pivotal movement with respect thereto in a vertical direction about, an axis extending longitudinally of the conveyor trough line and along one Side of said base, so as to avoid binding of the operative parts of said ar-; ticulated connection, when said base is distorted; by pressure exerted on opposite sides thereof by said jacks, when resting on an uneven mine bottom.
'7. In an articulated connection fora shaker conveyor trough line, a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between the mine roof and bottom, for holding said base stationary on the mine bottom, a driving trough and a driven trough, and means for mounting said troughs on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, including a-plate extending over and mounted on said base for restrained movement with respect thereto in a vertical direction about one of its sides and about an axis extending longitudinally of the conveyor trough line, so as to avoid binding of the operative parts of said articulated connection, when said base is distorted by the pressureexerted on opposite sides thereof by said jacks, when resting on an uneven mine bottom.
8.1 In an articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough'line, a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between the mine roof and bottom, for holding said base stationary on thermine bottom, a driving trough and a driven trough, and means for mounting said troughs on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterafly with respect to the other, including a plate extending over and mounted on said base for restrained movement with respect thereto in a Vertical direction about one of its sides and about an axis extending longitudinally of the conveyor trough line So as to avoid binding of the operative parts of said articulated connection when said first mentioned base is distorted by the pressure exertedon opposite sides thereof by said jacks, when resting on an uneven min bottom, and yieldable means connected between said base and said plate and yieldably restraining upward movement of said plate with respect to said base.
9. In an articulated connection for a shaker conveyor trough line, a base, a plurality of jacks adapted to be interposed between the min roof and bottom for holding said base stationary on the mine bottom, a driving trough and a driven trough and means for mounting said troughs on said base for reciprocable movement with respect thereto and so one may be moved laterally with respect to the other, including a plate mounted on and extending over said base, a shaft mounted on said base and extending along one side thereof in the general direction of the conveyor trough line and having said plate mounted thereon for movement about the axis of said shaft, and spring means connected with said base and engaging the top of said plate to yieldably restrain movement thereof in a Vertical direction, to permit said base to be bent by being held in position on an uneven mine bottom by means of said jacks engaging opposite sides thereof, without bending said plate and the parts mounted thereon.
