WQTOEPPER. Grain Distributer for Malt Kilns, &c.
No. 243,327. I Patented June 21,1881.
W5 Z 22 Maw, 1;? Wm 52 N. PETERS. m wmo n m. Washington. ac.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WENZEL TOEPFER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
GRAIN-DISTRIBUTER FOR MALT-KILNS, 80c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,327, dated June 21, 1881.
Application filed April 11, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENZEL TOEPFER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Grain-Distributors for Malt-Kilns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to devices for distributing grain as it is delivered from a higher to a lower level, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of myinvention. Fig. 2is a section on linea: w. A is the hopper, which is suitably hung beneath a spout, B, which passes from the upper floor by a link and eyebolt, which permit it to turn about a vertical center.
0 is a delivery-spout, which is hinged to the hopper by brackets c c, and just below the brackets I securely attach a band, d, to the spout, and to this band I hinge a bar,D, upon which I suspend a weight, D. I slightly enlarge the rod 1) just above the weight, and slot it to receive a notched bar, E, which I hinge t0 the lower end of the spout by band E.
In the lower edge of the slot in bar D, I provide a catch, which is adapted to fit in the notches in bar E.
Just below the band E, I attach a strip, e,of angle or T iron to the spout O, which strip is notched to receive a spring catch, 9,, that is fastened to an extension-spout, F, a longitudinal groove or crease in the extension-spout accommodating rib e and holding the. extension-spout against any tendency to turn, so as to carry the spring-catch out of engagement with the notched strip.
Operation: The weight D, causing rod D to draw upon one side of the spout G, will have a tendency to throw the spout out of a perpendicular, and render it easy for a person at the handles of the bar E to thrust it the (spout) out farther, and thus distribute the grain uniformly throughout the floor, the notches in bar E engaging with a catch in the enlargement d of rod D to hold the spout at any desired angle.
My device is specially designed for distributing malt on kiln-floors.
I design providing the spout and extension with suitable handles, by which they may be operated independently of bar E.
I claim 1. In grain-distributors for malt-kilns, 860., a hopper having hinged spout, in combination 55 with a rod, D, carrying a depending weight or counter-balance, as set forth.
2. In grain-distributers, the combination of the hopper and spout, hinged together, with the weighted rod D and notched bar E.
3. In combination with the hinged spout having notched rib e, the extension-spout having groove and spring-catch, as set forth.
I11 testimony thatI claim theforegoing I have hereunto set myhand this 21st day of March, 65 1881.
