This invention relates to a unit embodying a cigarette receptacle, a device for serving the cigarettes individually from the receptacle, and an ash tray for use in connection with the smoking of said cigarettes. y The principal object of the invention is to provide such a unit, which is conveniently and economically manuiacturable, saleable at low cost, conveniently and efliciently utilizable, simple and reliable of operation, strong, and durable, and improved, compact, of light weight, conveniently portable, and occupying a minimum of lateral area.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings- Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the unit constituting the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational v iew, partly in crosssection, of the cigarette receptacle and serving device forming part of the unit.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the unit shown in Fig. 1.
The unit I, Fig. 1, is provided `with a base 42 having a recess 3 into which is insertible the bottom portion 4 of an ash-try 5i, whereby the laty ter may be conveniently removed from the base 2 for emptying and cleaning. To the base 2 are secured posts 8, to the upper terminals of which are in turn secured a cigarette receptacle 'I in elevated overhanging location directly above the ash tray 5, as shown. The receptacle 1 consists of a box-like casing 8, closable by a cover 9, Fig. 1, and having therewithin an inclined partition I providing an inclined floor II and a vertical wall portion I2 opposite the casing wall 8a, thereby forming a groove I3 with the floor 8b of the casing. In casing wall 8c is provided an opening I4 which is in registry with the groove I3. Upon the floor 8b of casing 8 and against the casing wall 8d, in a groove 8e in the latter, is normally located a coil spring member I5, the rear end portion I5a of which is secured to the wall 8d by it-s spring-wire terminal I5c being wedged into the wall of casing 8, as shown, and a cord I6 secured to member I5 at IBa extends therefrom to a hole I'I in the floor 8b, from which hole it protrudes and terminates in a finger-piece I8. Upon drawing of the cord I6 with the finger-piece I8, Fig. 2, it actuates the member I5, Fig. 3, from the position shown by the dotted lines to that shown by the dot-and-dash lines, while releasing of the nger-piece swings the member I5 backwardly against its normal inoperative location against the wall 8d, a cutaway portion Illla of the partition IIJ permitting said actuation of the spring-member i5.
The space in the receptacle over its inclined floor Il is filled with a quantity of cigarettes I9, Fig. 2, which gravitationally cooperating with said floor and walls I2, 8a deposit a leading cigarette |901 onto the floor 8b at the bottom of groove I3, with a secondarily following cigarette I9b over the cigarette I9a. Whenthe user thereafter draws the cord IE with the finger-piece I8, the member I5 is flexed leftwardly, as viewed in Fig. 3, and an end lip I5b thereof shoves the leading cigarette I9a forwardly, thereby ejecting it partially from the receptacle 'I, through the aperture I4, in the position shown in Fig. 3. The user may then withdraw the cigarette I9a from the receptacle, whereupon the following cigarette ISU automatically assumes a leading position in registry with the aperture I4 and lip 15b of member I5, ready for serving a neXt individual cigarette by pull of the finger-piece I8.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A cigarette server having the combination of a receptacle for cigarettes provided with a oor and side walls, one of said walls having a lateral aperture, said receptacle having means for depositing said cigarettes on said floor individually and in. registry with said aperture, the other of said walls having a groove adjacent to said oor, a spring-member secured to said receptacle being retained within said groove, said floor havan outlet, and a cord passing from the eXterior of said receptacle through said outlet eX- tending and being attached to said member, whereby downward pulling of said cord will actuate said member to impel said registered cigarette to be ejected through said aperture.
