Description
' F. WALTERS.
, Millstone Driver.
- Patented May 31,- 1859.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND WALTERS, OF COVINGTON, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO G. F. NVALTERS AND S. H. STOUT, JR., OF SAME PLACE.
MILL-DRIVER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 24,268, dated May 31, 1859.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND I/VALTERS, of Covington, in the county of Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Millstone-Drivers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon and made to form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to the construction and arrangement of a divided adjustable mill stone driver, as hereinafter set forth and described.
In reference to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a perspective view, showing the driver arranged as for use. Fig 2, is a horizontal sectional view showing the peculiar construction and arrangement of the driver.
(A) represents an upper, and (B) alower mill stone for grinding purposes.
(C) is the driving shaft, provided with strong supporting cap (d, cl)'represents the divided adjustable driver pivoted to the cap (a) at (e) in such manner, that its ends and center are allowed a certain degree of lateral motion, the center of the driver ((Z, d) is made to fit loosely around the shaft (C) so that its lateral working may not be impeded by the shaft.
(g) is an ordinary balance rynd, made to rest upon the top of the shaft (G) as shown in Fig. 1, and fitted to the driver as shown fully in Fig. 2.
It will be readily seen that the driving power applied to the running stone (A) must necessarily be equalized and made to act in harmony upon either side of said running stone by means of the adjustable driver (cl 05) thereby preserving the proper equilibrium of the running stone and thereby greatly facilitating the processof grinding.
FERDINAND \VALTERS.
